Ugh. 13 weeks and bleeding again.

This past Tuesday evening I had a gush of red blood that sent me to the ER where it quickly turned to brown and just spotting. Bloodwork was great, ultrasound was great. Never had any cramping. Doctor said it was just a blip on the radar and to forget about it.

Well.....at 3am this morning I got up to pee and there was more red blood in the toilet. Again, followed by brown spotting and is pretty much gone now. No cramps. Seemingly the same as last time. I was told to go back to the ER if I was soaking a pad/hour which I haven't been even close to.

So....what the heck? It's really scary, but I'm trying not to panic since it was fine last time. I think I just have to wait until Monday morning to get in to see my own doctor. Maybe he can figure out why this is happening.

Anybody have experience with this?

I had the exact same thing happen with my twins around the same time (12-16 wks) It happened 3 times over the course of a month, red blood, then brown spotting. I never went to the ER because my insurance is crap and it would have cost a fortune, but I did follow up with my OB.

We never did find out the cause, ultrasounds and blood work always came back great and obviously everything worked out (judging by the 15 month old twins destroying my living room as I type this)

Hopefully its just one of those unexplained pregnancy "things" for you. I know it's scary but since you're not cramping or soaking through pads, it's probably nothing to worry about.

Sorry to hear about your experiences, Mama. Sounds like it could be a subchorionic bleed. It wouldn't hurt to have them take a look again and see if they can find a cause to put your mind at ease.

Knowing the cause would certainly help me to relax at least a little bit. I'm glad to hear your story LSUTwinMama. And thank you for the thought trimestersdoula. I may do a little research about that.

If I start bleeding again I think I may head to the ER, otherwise I'll be knocking at my doctor's door first thing Monday morning. There's no way I can wait until my scheduled appt. on Thursday. This is way to nerve wracking.

This. I bled for a long time my last pregnancy and did end up in the ER. It caused some frustration with the ultrasounds because the baby was swallowing the blood and it showed up in the bowel and was easily confused with markers for trisomy so I was pressured to have an amnio. I just put it off until they said it was too late and went on to have a beautiful, healthy boy.

Interesting about the trisomy. I won't be doing an amnio as this is an IVF baby and we did something called Microarray CGH which tests all 24 pairs of chromosomes for abnormalities, so we know that this little bean doesn't have those kinds of issues. I just can't believe that after three years of trying to get pregnant that the pregnancy itself has to be this stressful!

So sorry you are going through this Daisy.
A few thoughts.
I had a friend who bled like that every tiime she had sex. Is that a possibility? Or are you doing any horseback riding lately?
Also some women have capillaries that are close to the surface on the cervix and they bleed v. easily during pregnancy. Your OB or MW should be able to tell you if that's the case with you.
I really hope it subsides and/or you get a logical answer that can help take some of the stress off.

Hi Poet, nice to see a "friendly face" here. No horseback riding and no running since the IVF. We had sex 24 hrs. before the first incident, but have not had sex since then, so I don't think that's it. I just want it to be Monday already so I can see my regular doc!

I had red bleeding off and on between 9-13wks with this pregnancy due to two small subchorionic bleeds. I would have a small gush and then spot red for a few hours and it would be brown by the next morning (almost all the bleeds started in the late afternoon or evening). I'm 25wks now and everything is fine and normal, no other problems.

eleonraius, thank you for sharing that. It sounds exactly like what I've experienced. I've done a little online research (which I know can be dangerous!) and have heard many similar stories with that diagnosis and lots of positive outcomes.

I had bleeding with my DD 3-4x in the course of a couple of months (mybe 8-14 weeks preg?). Every couple of weeks I would beed like a light period, so then I would go see my doc, get u/s, and everything seemed fine. Each time it was like that. Never found out wha it was. DD s now 19 months old and everything did work out really well for us, so good luck!

Only 13 more hours until the doctor's office opens. This has been the longest weekend ever!!

I had four very heavy bleeds this pregnancy. The last one being at least 2 cups (I was able to add up the fist sized blood clots). It was terrifying and it took a while to recognize but it was a subchorionic hematoma.

I am 27 weeks along and doing great. Similar thing happened with my last.

One issue for me was that I was taking two supplements that were thinning my blood without taking the third that would help balance it. Could you be doing something like tha?

Wow, Mammo2Sammo, that sounds VERY scary! I'm so glad everything was ok. The only thing I'm taking is a prenatal vitamin, but I haven't had bleeding nearly as badly as you describe.

Only half an hour until the doctor's office opens. I'll certainly update you all when I know more!

Had an ultrasound which showed the baby is absolutely perfect and is apparently a thumbsucker. I have a teeny tiny clot that the doctor said should be a non-issue and my cervix is still closed tightly and is the proper length. He said to take it easy until the spotting has stopped completely, but is not at all worred and thinks things will get better from here. Phew! He's letting me keep my scheduled 14 week appt. for this coming Thursday just to check in and let me hear the heartbeat. I'm feeling MUCH better and MUCH more hopeful. Thank you for all the support!!

Thanks Poetgirl. Now if this brown spotting would go away, I would feel really spectacular!
