can I use tapioca starch and regular sugar? what other starch might work better? how about proportions? thanks for ideas. i am the best procrastinator

Arrowroot powder would work well, I think. From what I can tell, the ratio would be the same...at least, I sub it 1 for 1 in my other recipes! So according to a few recipes I looked up really quick, 1 c. sugar + 1 T arrowroot (or cornstarch) in a blender = powedered sugar!

thanks! I ended up not having enough arrow root powder so I tried the tapioca starch and it was yummy! Success on gluten, dairy, egg, soy, corn free birthday cake! (i did use a allergen free box mix though)

Just saw this. For future reference, the few corn-free icing sugars on the market use tapioca starch. I see that you used some and it all worked out. But just thought you might like the fyi.
