Freezing peas without blanching

I know there is some controversy over this - I'm curious what your experience has been. Last year we just shelled and froze a small amount of peas. They tasted fine and no one died I'd like to freeze a larger amount without blanching again, but also don't want to tempt fate with food safety either!

Thanks,
Samm

I don't think it's a food safety issue-- it's a flavor/ nutrient loss issue. fwiw

We NEVER have enough peas to freeze-- ours rarely make it into the house

we shell them in freezer bags and they go directly to the freezer raw, the girls help themselves to frozen peas all year long!

I never blanch mine. I do, however, flash freeze them by putting them on a cookie sheet in a single layer, freezing them, then bagging them after they are frozen. Helps preserve that lovely texture. My understanding is that blanching will help prevent browning in the freezer, but mine never last long enough to brown anyway so I figure why bother?
