Our NAET experience (starting over, post #25)

This is going to be a running log of our NAET treatments and how they work for us.

We found a practitioner who is treating both me and DD at the same time (since she's still nursing, and I have possible intolerances, so it's hard to tell what is her reaction and what is possibly my reaction manifesting through her, if that makes any sense.)

We had a consultation last week and got our first experience with muscle testing. I talked about it on the chat thread a bit, but to sum up- it blew my mind. I was expecting it to be interesting and informative. I was definitely not expecting to have such obvious and drastic results. Crazy.

So we went for our first treatment today. Today's treatment was for egg mix. I got needles (acupuncture), some acupressure, and massage; DD just got the acupressure.

The method they use is to go through a list of 12(?) things first, rather than trying to target specific foods. The list includes specific minerals, vitamins, sugar, and other inflammatory items (like eggs I guess). Supposedly, once those things are cleared, people will lose a lot of their intolerances because they are actually reacting to these pieces of the food, rather than the food itself. I'm finding this theory really interesting, because it could explain a lot of DD's mystery reactions. I know she reacts horribly to supplemental calcium- we muscle tested calcium and it was a BIG positive for her. And vitamin A- same thing. So when I said that I suspect she's having a slight reaction to avocados, he said that was because they are high in vitamin A, and that's what she's reacting to. I'm wondering if that might explain her mystery hives whenever she eats meat from a bone. We eat the same lamb shoulder steaks every night, from the same farm/store, specially cut on clean machines. She never ever has a reaction to the meat itself, but when she chews the meat off the bone, she'll get hives wherever the bone rubs on her skin.

Anyway.... I thought it was really interesting, and I'm curious how this will work out for us. Our next appointment is next Friday, and that one will be a 2nd egg "booster" and something else... don't remember. But he told us that most people are 97% cleared of the allergen after the first egg mix, then totally cleared after the 2nd mix. You only have to avoid the food for 24 hours after treatment, but if you're not totally cleared he said your reaction might be more severe than it had been previous. So we're waiting until after our 2nd treatment to try egg.

DD is IgE, contact reactive to egg, so it will be really easy to see if the treatment worked for us (I'll put a tiny bit of raw egg on her arm- normally that would mean instant hives.)

So- that's where we are right now, and I'll try to remember to come back every week and update this as our treatment continues!

Oh- I just found this link on the provider's website about the initial list of things they clear. #1 is what we had done today; not sure we are doing the same order as this list or not. (And they aren't all necessarily done to everyone- only the ones you muscle test positive to.)

Oh yeah- and he told me that after we do the initial list of stuff, we can go through the list of vaccines that DD had (she had one round at 2mo ) and clear each one of those if she's still reacting to them. He said that he's cleared himself for vaccines from his childhood that were still affecting him.

Well, DD fell asleep really quickly tonight (he also said she might be really tired after treatment; not a big surprise because I'm usually exhausted after doing acupuncture), but she's sleeping really bad. She's been whining and tossing and turning for the last hour. So we're definitely having a flare of some sort, because she didn't eat anything today that should be bothering her. I will take that as a good sign that something is happening!

This will be really interesting to follow. Your doctor sounded like he explained it a lot better than the naturopath tried to explain it to me.

Subbing. Sounds really interesting. The craniopath I'm seeing does some kind of homeopathic drops to clear allergies. We are going to try it with Adam.

Ugh. We showed up AGAIN to an empty office. But this time the building was unlocked, so we sat in the waiting room for 1/2 an hour before realizing he wasn't there (there's no receptionist or anything, and the office is shared by other practitioners.)

But at least this time I got a phone call (I guess there was some kind of emergency.) Problem was that my cell phone was dead, so I didn't get the message until after we left. grrrrr.

So when is your next appointment? And bummer.....

Not sure. The office person (or whoever she is) just left a message saying that he was really sick and had to go to the hospital, and that she would contact us when she knew his schedule. Hope he's ok, but I'm super annoyed. Today was supposed to be the egg booster mix, and I was really looking forward to doing an egg test so that I would have something tangible to show me that this is really worth the cash!

Maybe the next treatment will be free too!

But yeah, that is soooooo annoying.

Oh yeah.... almost forgot to update this thread.

Yesterday was supposed to be our next appointment, that we rescheduled after the last canceled appointment. Yep, I said supposed to. Got a call just a couple hours before our appointment time yesterday telling me that he was sick (again? still?) and that she was canceling all his afternoon appointments.

So if you're keeping track, that's FOUR scheduled appointments that we've had, and ONE time that we've actually been seen.

Obviously, I hope the guy is ok, and obviously I don't want him getting us sick.... but COME ON!! Two weeks in a row calling us just hours before our appointment to cancel? How unprofessional!

DP thinks we should reschedule and at least get the #2 treatment done so that we'll be totally cleared for eggs, but I am ready to go somewhere else (which probably means paying a lot more... which probably means that we won't actually get to do it.)

Sigh.

That is so frustrating! Doesn't look good for him. But his website looked so awesome. Wonder what is up?

That's really a bummer. Sometimes I wonder--we all got interested in this alternative stuff (or more deeply into it) because _we're_ sick... so are most of our HCPs sick as well?

When you can actually get in to talk with him, I'd ask him what's up with his health.

His assistant (or whatever) said he had a virus. But yeah, who knows. Maybe we've just got really bad timing for meeting this guy. Or maybe this is just a HUGE sign from the universe that this is yet another treatment that won't do s**t for us, so we should save the money for something else.... arg.

I think I might go back to the NAET website (once I have real internet again) and look for someone new. Seems like there were quite a few people around Seattle.

That totally blows.

Two years ago I drove to CT to see an ND who specialized in lyme. He came highly recommended & was really nice. Shortly after I met him I got a call saying that he was taking a leave of absence for personal reason & that someone in his office would be covering. I wasn't really comfortable continuing with someone I didn't know.

I found out about a year later that he died of a brain tumor. So weird.

Hard to say what it all means.
