reasons (besides m/c) for light brown discharge around 10 wks?

Ok mamas...help me out here. I'm about 10 1/2 wks pg and last Monday evening, I noticed a small amount of light brown discharge on the TP when I wiped...then a little bit the next morning. I called my midwife's nurse Tuesday morning because I had also had a few hrs of menstrual-like cramps the previous Sunday night. They had me come in for an u/s Thursday afternoon and everything looked great...baby was right on schedule with a heart rate of 178. I had had very little, if any, discharge between the time I called Tuesday morning until Thurs morning when a noticed a little bit again when I wiped. A little again on Friday, not really any yesterday, but again some more this morning. It's never very much and doesn't appear to be getting worse but it isn't going away either. After the u/s on Thursday, we met with the midwife who said she has no idea what might be causing the discharge, but since the u/s looked great, for us not to worry. Well, I'd feel a lot better if I could come up with some possible reasons for the light brown discharge. We have our 12 wk appt with the midwife a week from this Tuesday so I have 9 days until we find out if there's still a heartbeat. I have continued to have the same pregnancy symptoms I had been having the whole pregnancy, and my gut says that everything is ok, but without knowing for sure for another 9 days, it would really help put my mind at ease if y'all could tell me any possible reasons for the discharge!

brown is good. Means old blood. I'd try not to worry about it (((hugs)))

shoefairy is right, brown means old blood, so you're not actively bleeding. I had the exact same thing happen when I was 8 weeks along; my midwife's explanation was that it was old implantation blood that was just now working its way down. Mine lasted about 2-3 days, then stopped.

I bet that's what's going on, try not to worry!

Could be from implantation, could be from the cervix (i.e., irritated by intercourse, exam, u/s, etc.). Brown is not a problem 95% of the time - says my MW when I had some and asked her to remind me that it was all fine!

Thanks for the responses, mamas! I'm still having the same discharge, but it's not gettting any worse and it's still brownish. I feel fine otherwise...still having the same pregnancy symptoms. I'm still feeling pretty optimistic about everything, so that's good.

For the record, DH and I haven't had sex in several weeks, so it couldn't be from that, but I *did* have my first mw appt 3 days before the discharge started...she did the STD swab but not the Pap. She also did a very brief pelvic exam (very brief because it caused too much discomfort due to my very full bladder!) So maybe some old blood worked it's way down a few days after that exam? But I'm not sure why that would cause a week's worth (or more...I'm right at a week now) of brownish discharge. Anyhoo, those are my thoughts...I'm still open to other possible reasons, so holler if anybody thinks of anything else!

Just trying to stay positive and hope that the next 8 days go by quickly! It doesn't help that after the 12 wk appt was when we were planning on letting the cat out of the bag...it's been a pretty hard secret to keep this go-around!

Is it possible that your vaginal discharge is just tinged brown right now, and it isn't blood at all? All those hormones can do crazy things, including changing the color of your discharge. Just throwing that out there since it's been going on a while.

Either way, still not anything to worry about.
