Yeast or food intolerance?

Does my experience sound like a yeast overgrowth, or a food intolerance to you?

My symptoms are all GI- bloating, stinky gas, gurgly tummy, etc. When I was on the ED to figure out J's sensitivities, those sx were gone. I was doing low sals, (very little fruit and veggies, lots of beans, etc. I was eating sugar during that time) very little soy, but was eating dairy and occasionally wheat.

I started eating everything again (including LOTS of fruit and veggies, and my sx were back with a vengeance. I thought yeast made sense for a lot of reasons* (though not sure why sugar on the ED didn't make it worse- there were days I ate a LOT of sugar), so I started eating an anti-yeast diet. My sx went away again- I was eating berries, some other fruit, lots of veggies, some nuts, beans, dairy, a small amount of wheat, and meat- no processed foods, no soy. NO sugar (other than fruit, etc) at all.

Yesterday, I had sugary cereal for breakfast, had major sugar cravings, and made choc chip cookies. I also ate lots of wheat, take out chinese foods, and some processed foods . Gassy, bloated, blah.

*I had a YI when ds2 was born, and I've read that YI can increase food sensitivities, which could account for ds2's intolerances.

I am/was allergic to mango, and have other food/chemical sensitivities, so that's not out of the realm of possible for me. But does it sound like a yeast overgrowth?

I've got the same thing going on. I'll pull up my chair and wait with you!

I think you're food reacting. Just my two cents.

Other possibility is consider your menstrual cycle - our bodies convert glycogen to sugar in the later part of our cycle, so yeast often flares right before your period starts (higher blood sugar levels, independent of what you are eating).

Mommy2Haley- sorry you have the same thing happening- it's not pleasant! I hope we both figure it out quickly.

mamafish- I've started wondering about soy the last couple days. hmmm... I forgot to mention that my symptoms get worse as the day progresses. Sometimes they don't start until evening, but are always worse later in the day. So it's not something that happens, say, right after breakfast.

I haven't started AF yet, and my gassy bloating has been happening since I started eating all foods to do J's IgG test a month ago.

I'm going to try the no sugar thing again tomorrow and see what happens. It still could be a single food, but at least I'll know something (and feel better!)

Ack!! My sx also start later in the day. AF hasn't returned for me either ...

I'm already dairy, egg, soy, gluten, rice, peanut, treenut, fish, shellfish, banana, raisin, watermelon, cantaloupe free ...

MommytoHailey- have you tried a sugar free diet? Or have any more insights?

I've noticed the last few days that when I eat conventional cereal for breakfast, that I have sx later that day (but not right away). When I eat oats with berries (no sugar) or organic low sugar cereal, I don't. I don't restrict my foods the rest of the day. I don't know if this is related to sugar, something else in the cereal, how I eat the rest of the day (subconsciously), or just a coincidence. But I thought it was interesting.

I'm also wondering if it could have something to do with nuts/seeds. Maybe because they are hard to digest?

And now ds has thrush. So I'm going to guess that it's likely that yeast is at least part of my problem.
Hey, at least it's good motivation to stop consuming sugar and white flour. I've been wbting to lose weight anyway.

I'm about to complicate things and say it's both.

In my experience and reading, an inflamed gut from food allergies/intolerances can lead to yeast issues. Gut healing measures can only work so far if you continue to eat food that inflames the intestinal lining.

That being said, things like glutamine/bone broths, magnesium, omega 3 fatty acids, digestive enzymes and probiotics can work on both issues and reduce food reactions.

And yes, nuts and seeds can cause issues with digestion but you may not necessarily be "allergic" to them... just that your digestive process can't break them down properly right now.
