SPERM: Good or Bad?

So we want to start trying for #2 next month but that will be 2/3 weeks after my husband has surgery and will have taken a ton of antibiotics/pain meds. Will his sperm be tainted? How long does it take for that stuff to leave his body?

It takes 64 days to make sperm. Crazy, right?

Just did a quick search on the web and it looks like sperm can be affected by opiates but not necessarily antibiotics. The prescribing doctor or maybe even a good pharmacist should be able to tell you more about the specific drugs your husband has taken. Hope that helps.

So is the sperm used during conceiving from 64 days ago, pre-meds?

It certainly seems that way. I don't know who would even be a good authority on that. An RE?

Depends on the meds. Ask your pharmacist, RE, or doc if it will be a problem with the specific prescription. I would say the abx are fine, but the pain meds are probably fine. If he's having surgery is it such a good time to ttc? He might be in pain.
