Do I pay or not?

Took my allergic kids to a naturopath and paid $80 for the visit, and $40 for supplments. He gave us stuff he determoned by muscle testing. Right away my kids broke out terrible and after 2 weeks they got worse that I have ever seen. I was on the pone all the time with the guy as he was adjusting the amounts we took. (I took it for my infant sone through the b milk). After 2 weeks, both kids were very sick and both running high fevers. I was desperate and he said to take a new batch of supplemtns that would cost $54. I said Icouldn't ay it right away, but he said to pay it later and get it in the kids ASAP. I did and they stared bleeding all over they bodies and even from they cheeks. It was pretty scarry and Istopped the supps and never went back to the guy when the last day I was talking to the guy in the phone, he said that he really doens;t care what happens to the kids.

So now I am getting letters saying I have to pay for the $54 or he will send it to collections. I don't think I should pay as it took months to heal from and he really hurt the kids, but I do have the bittles, and they are opened and can't be returned. Should I pay?

No, I wouldn't pay. Either he completely got the testing wrong and gave your children the wrong treatment (hence their universally bad reaction to the products) or the products he gave you were not produced in a clean, reputable manufacturing plant and something they were adulterated with caused a reaction (hence their universally bad reaction to the products). Either way, I can't see any other professional requiring payment for those products. If something like that happened with a product you bought from a store, or ate in a restaurant, they would be falling over themselves to avoid a lawsuit.

It's NOT NORMAL to bleed from a supplement.

Save the supplements in case you ever decide to get them tested for purity and safety. Reply to him IN WRITING, refusing payment and detailing the severity of their reactions, and if he pushes, report the incident to your BBB, attorney general, department of health and safety, etc. If he does send you to collections, you can write a similar letter challenging the debt.

oh my goodness!!! I hope you took your children to the ER when the bleeding started....I would send that dr. your bill for the ER visit!! Holy cow....definitely do NOT pay him. I know with medical bills, even if they go to collections and you never pay they do not effect your credit rating at all. I seriously doubt he will continue to fight over $54 to begin with. I, personally, would put in writing what the treatment did to your children. If you have any dr's notes from their reactions I would include those as well....then I would put in there that if they continue to request payment for those services and supplements that you will contact a lawyer. They are lucky you're not requesting a refund for all of their services that they provided to you. That will usually scare them enough to leave you alone.

If it goes collections, contact me if you need info on dealing with them. You won't have to pay it (I'm 99% sure).

Thanks everyone! I am just such an honest person that I feel like not paying is stealing for supplements. But I never experenced a naturopath like that. I really think that I am going to send a letter saying I am not going to pay. It is scarry how he confessed that his muscle testing wasn't working and he kept ahving to call up a friend in wisconson to test for him. He said that it was the lyme my son and I have giving him mixed signals. I have thought of getting all my money back, but I was only in the office with the kids once, and he spent many hours total on the phone over several weeks. I was taking supps through breastmilk for my 4 month old son at the time and at the end he said that he didn't care what happened to my son as if the dumping I was doing was very dangerous to him. We are still recovering from the damage done by the supps, but medicaid covered all the bills and I just treated my kids afterwards with herbs and homeopathy. The office never even saw my kids when they were at their worst as we did everything except the first visit over the phone. So when I talked to his wife in the office, she siad that she isn't sure she could believe my words.

That is incredibly scary! Wow! I mean, beyond words scary! No way, no how would I pay him any more, and I would take steps to AT LEAST get your money back from him. That's not just treatment "not working." It is sooo much worse. And I wouldn't care how much time he put into phone calls. That was his choice and part of his job, and he still failed your family. I realize no one can guarantee success, but this is just.... I'm sort of beyond words.

No advice here, but wanted to leave my sympathy for your situation. I am so sorry that this happened and for this guy's nasty attitude.
