Credit card dispute?

Has anyone here successfully disputed a credit card charge, when it was something you actually purchased, but had no luck resolving the issue with the merchant?

Long story short, I bought some furniture from a store in town. I had to special order it, and when it came in, it was junk. Store is no longer returning my calls about the furniture. My saleswoman isn't at the store anymore, but told me to dispute the charge on the CC (store card) and it often works. What do I write? Other than a page full of expletives?

I do have a list of all the times I've called, and was going to attach that to the letter ...

I have, but it was for a small amount and through my Paypal CC. I just called and talked to paypal and they gave me a form to fill out. They sided with me.

You need to look at your cc statement (this is a store cc, correct?) and see what bank/cc company it is and contact them to ask about the appropriate paperwork.

I disputed a purchase once for quality not delivered. It was really easy, but it wasn't for a large amount, like furniture. I simply filled out an online form and it was refunded, no questions asked.

For a large amount like yours, I agree that you should attach any supporting documents like you suggested. It's a clear-cut ripoff, and you'll probably be able to get it resolved without too much trouble.

I think your chances of a successful dispute are extremely high. This is based on experience as a customer and as a merchant, both.

It's definitely for quality not delivered ... I just went into the store to get a copy of the receipt, and the owner was actually in! He claimed to have been on vacation alllll last week (funny, the employees never mentioned that when I called) and denied me a refund or exchange.

Apparently, if you pay $579 for a dresser (suggested retail $799!), it's really unreasonable to ask that the drawers be square or straight, and definitely not both. It's just not possible to make a dresser like that.

I just filed with the BBB before I went in, and the CC dispute will be faxed tomorrow.

My $50 dent-and-scratch Ikea dresser has square and straight drawers, and dp and I put it together. lol

I really hope it's an easy win for you!

I disputed a large charge, for a furniture store that went out of business and took our 50% deposit with them! I called the credit card company to let them know and to find out exactly what they needed me to say in the statement as well as any supporting documentation. Then I faxed it in, and they took it off my card - it's was very simple (on my end anyway).

I disputed a pellet stove two winters ago when the manager of the store was defrauding customers and then the store when our of business - I just called a my CC's customer service and the very helpful agent walked me through it. I hate talking on the phone, but calling customer service was really useful for me, and I got walked through the entire process.

If you have online access to your acct, you may be able to file the initial claim there. I recently did for a small duplicate charge. At the end of the process, they give you an address to mail your supporting information within 10 days.

Okay, I did it. I had to fax a letter, plus photographs, to the account resolution department. I'll let you know how it ends up!

After getting kicked out of the store yesterday, I really hope I get this resolved ...

So the 90 days for the dispute is up next Monday or Tuesday. The store did nothing for me until last Thursday, when they suddenly called and said they had a new dresser for me. Awesome, right?

Wrong. It was just as shoddy as the last one, and one drawer actually had dark brown, almost black, knots on it when the rest of the finish is extremely light birch. As light as wood can get, really.

I had the delivery men take it back with them. They tried to leave it with me, and let me keep the original too, as their orders were to go donate it somewhere. Sorry, but I'd rather have my $1008 back for the whole set.

I'm just hoping that they run out of time. I can't see this being resolved without a refund in a week.

Did you get this resolved? I've been hoping that you'd get some satisfaction from the furniture place, but it doesn't seem likely.

They came out again a few days ago, with the same dresser. The CS manager claimed that he had fixed it. Nothing was different. I did notice more chips and cracks in it than last time though!

The rep that came out with the dresser kept saying, "Well, kids' furniture isn't usually made of solid wood..." as if I should be grateful to even find children's furniture that isn't made of cardboard. I told him it didn't matter who the furniture was for, that I'd paid for high quality furniture and this wasn't it. They left and I haven't heard anything yet. It's definitely past 90 days now. I'll update when I know anything.
