My DS's teeth are what his dentist calls hypolastic. His ped referred us to a pediatric dentist because his two top teeth were coming in with some enamel problems. His ped. dentist told me it was because of night nursing
. I suspect the enamal problems and the hypoplasia is due to either the antibiotics he was on for an ear infection at 4 months (his first 4 teeth appeared at 5 months) or the antibiotics I was on when he was little for mastitis. Anyway, his teeth are already weak, and I am worried.
At almost 18 months I think he has all of his baby teeth, except maybe his 2 year molars. The top two teeth are touching in the middle, and I read that I should encourage flossing when the teeth are close enough to touch. Well...just brushing his teeth is a two adult job, as he kicks and flails and generally throws a fit. It requires me or DH holding him down while the other adult brushes his teeth.
What can I do for his teeth? We have well water so he doesn't get fluoride, but I am wondering if I should ask his ped or ped. dentist for fluoride drops? I have heard bad things about fluoride though, so I am not sure...
We eat pretty well, avoid sugar, he doesn't get juice, doesn't get sweets...other than like, raisins.
What can I do for his teeth? I am worried about decay, especially since his teeth are already weak and they are all in and some are touching. He still nurses at night occasionally, but I try to remember to give him a drink of water after he's done to rinse out his mouth.
