Is anyone else worried about cell phone emissions?

Thread Starter
Hi,

Just wondering if anybody else is stressed about this...

I am really concerned about the non-ionizing radiation emitted by the cell phones, and what that could do to the baby's brain development. I am
currently 28 weeks pregnant.

I don't normally use my cell phone very often, but I have been moving for the past two weeks and have been using it a LOT (land-line is not working yet). I try to be conscientious about things like cell phones, but I've been carrying it around with me all day (when it's on), calling people every minute, and stuff like that.

Also, there is a satellite dish (not mine) on the side of my apartment building, right on the other side of my bedroom! Troubling

Does anybody else feel worried about this? Has anybody used a cell phone a lot in the third trimester...do you have any comments? I can't stop feeling bad about my actions!

I dont even have a landline... and cell phone emissions are about the furthest from my worries of anything. I worry much more about getting in a car accident or falling down getting out of the tub... things that are known for sure to be dangerous almost every time.

I don't have a landline myself and haven't since before I got married. I had my daughter and only used a cell. As far as I know, her brain is okay, she seems pretty smart to me.

What Mae said. So many other things to potentially worry about; I don't need to add another to the list! Lol.

We don't have a landline either, but we just got this new home phone, its got bluetooth, so when either my or my husband phones rings and we are at home, it will ring this phone too. We can also use it to call out. That way we're not using a cell phone but a regular phone whenever we are at home. If you're really worried about it, maybe you could get something like this, so you'll be minimizing your contact with your cell.

I know how tempting it is to obsess, but this really seems like it should be the least of a mama's worries. I haven't had a landline in over a decade, so all my babies have been exposed to cell phone emmisions. With this baby and the last, it's a LOT of cell usage...my phone is my phone AND my computer (I'm on it now!). My kids are all healthy, happy, and intelligent.
If it's a worry you can't shake, just take simple precautions like not carrying it with the antenna (or the back of the phone, if the antenna is internal) against your body, especially your belly.

It is something I'm concerned about, but not while gestating. I think it's more of a concern when we're talking about young children or teens using cell phones. There's a fair amount of research showing that over-exposure (or probably "normal" exposure for our culture) is able to influence the growth and structure of brain cells...the tissue and cells close to the phone when it's in use.

I heard a special about it on public radio, actually, and the research was very clear-cut. When you remove the studies that were partially or totally funded by cell-phone companies or tech industries involved in the mobile industry, a very large majority of the studies showed an increase in brain cancer and morphology changes/abnormalities among young people who use cell phones. The research is so startling, in fact, that some European countries are considering laws against childhood/teen use of cell phones.

Adult brains and tissues are not so vulnerable to cell phone use, though, by those very same studies. Our brains are, for the most part, done growing, and we are more protected against mutations.

If I were constantly (and I mean constantly) putting my cell phone up against my baby's head or body while the cell phone was in use, then maybe I'd be concerned. As it is, though, I'm not.

(Talk to me when this little one is 10 and wants a cell phone, though....the answer, after a review of the science, will probably be a big old NO.)

Yup. I am concerned about it. I leave my phone in my travel bag (don't ever carry it in my pocket or on me) and almost always use my blue tube (NOT tooth!) rec'd by Mercola when on it. I very rarely let my kids use a cell phone. I got a landline when my eldest was old enough to talk on the phone bc I won't allow them to use a cell.
Still concerns me that there are cell towers EVERYWHERE and I know I'm exposed from them.
Also, I am hardwired to the internet bc wi-fi has a similar radiation effect.

My mom died of a brain tumor, and though she wasn't a big cell user, nor was cell phone radiation ever mentioned as cause of the tumor, I can't help but want to protect myself and kids from such a terrible way to die. The evidence is clear that cell phones DO cause radiation, and it's pretty alarming to me that people choose to ignore that out of convenience.

As I think may have been hinted at in another PP, bluetooth is NOT safer than a cell phone. If I'm not mistaken, the very same radiation you worry about in the phone is present in bluetooth which is how it works. Maybe I have that wrong (I hope so when I see people wearing that thing everywhere all the time) but that's my understanding.

To answer your question OP, yup, count me as another person concerned about cell phones, but like someone else said, not so much re: current gestation as I worry about my own health and the kids when they are old enough to want one. I might seriously risk them hating me forever and not let them have a cell.

Not worried at all. Too many other things that are of a lot more pressing concern to me!

Yes, although I can't drive myself crazy over it because I work with cell phones. At any given time I have about 3 iPhones and an iPad in my vicinity. The iPhone is among the heavier emitters.

So I do what I can, I've stopped wearing my cell phone in my hip purse except when I'm out and about, and I keep them away from my body whenever possible, just to be on the safe(r) side. If I am out with my husband then I ask him to carry my phone. I also got an iHome dock with a remote for my dresser so I don't have to keep the phone on my nightstand (as an alarm clock, I mean).

They don't have to be all that far from your body in order to lessen the risk, that's why headsets help (wireless or not).

I think bluetooth is fine (much much lower radiation since it only needs to detect things a few feet away, it doesn't need to search for cell tower signal like the phone does).
