Tortillas

I love using tortillas, but the only ones I can find (corn or wheat) are loaded with preservatives. I don't have a whole foods anywhere near me. I have a press and have made my own many times, but it is sooooo time consuming. My corn ones always fall apart and I have a hard time getting the flour ones flat enough. They are really good, though.

What do you use? Any homemade shortcuts?

Food for Life makes a number of different types of tortillas. I have only tried the sprouted corn tortillas and they are really good. They are a lot more expensive than the typical supermaket corn tortillas though. I don't live near a Whole Foods, either, but I can get some of their products in my regular grocery store or food co-op.

I second the Food For Life sprouted corn tortillas! They are so good! I love Mexican food and these tortillas work for all the recipes.

I actually found tortillas at Walmart that only had a couple ingredients! Also Trader Joe's (which is where we usually get them)... If it's something you will eat often you can make a special trip for them & freeze them. We freeze them all the time actually because we only grocery shop 1-2 times a month. I would love to make my own but I don't have the time or patience!

I also love the Food for Life sprouted corn tortillas I get a bunch from Azure Standard (not sure if you are in their delivery area) and keep them in the freezer.

I used to do the same with the TJs ones.

If you opt to make your own, I'd make an afternoon of it, make a bunch and freeze enough for several meals. I've only made flour ones, and I had to roll them out, so I don't have any great tips, but I bet if you made a lot you'd get pretty fast lol

It is frustrating - I am always amazed that out of the huge display at the regular grocery, it is about impossible to find any without something undesirable in them (hydrogenated oil, soy, etc.).
