I will say, however, that she is not dead-on about conversing with interested children. She assumes all girls of a similar age would be interested in talking with her, but sadly this is not so. (In fact a minority of kids do... it's strange to me, they seem very antisocial to me who is used to DD... though I myself am antisocial). So I do still have to redirect her when she's trying to talk to kids who outright ignore her. What a shame![/QUOTE]

I have that same problem with my 9 year old child. Adults will talk with her and listen to her, however, kids her own age will look at her like she has two heads or something. What's up with that. Its very sad indeed. She so much wants to be friendly, but most kids ignore her.

We find this happens a lot. Every now and then, she'll find another kid like her - one that never meets a stranger and is happy to jump into a big conversation. She finds a few kids who will cautiously answer questions and eventually relax and play a bit. Some kids are obviously shy or reserved but a shockingly large number are...kinda snotty and rude. Like the NERVE of you to dare talk to ME. That, to me, is just weird.

Yes, exactly!!! Believe me, I don't feel that way about a kid who seems shy. But so many are just ... exclusive. Felt a lot like middle school to me. Shy kids kind of acknowledge the approach even if not well - glace at my child, maybe mumble something, maybe look at their parent for help. But the snotty ones are much more common and they'll just look at my kid like she's an idiot and outright ignore her.

So much for my homeschooled kid not being socialized...
