I need encouragement

I'm so down again. On top of all the otherstress in our lives right now, I had a nurse acquaintance badger me all morning about vbac and that I'm high risk, shouldn't be trying it, and it's not good, and do you know the side effects, etc. As if this isn't hard enough already. Can I please get a virtual hug?

Many, many, many ((((((hugs)))))! You ARE going to have a wonderful, fabulous VBAC. You CAN do this, Mama!!!!

....and tell that acquaintance to keep her opinions to herself. It's none of her business and if she doesn't have anything encouraging/supportive to say....then she needs to just keep quiet. (that's the polite version of what I would have said to her ).

Hugs mama. Ignore those naysayers! My HBAC was awesome. :-)

My VBA2C was awesome!!!
After it was over, the nurse I had came to me and thanked me because she said it was so wonderful! She told me that when she heard she was having a VBA2C with no pain meds, she was absolutely dreading it but that it turned out to be great.
I had 2 c sections and 2 VBAC's alternating. C section with DS1, VBAC with DS2, C section with DD1 and VBA2C with DD2. Both of my VBAC babies were healthier than my c section babies! Not that they were sick or anything but they had jaundice and a harder time nursing and they had a harder time with excess mucus in the first few days.

lots of strength and to you!

Many health care providers (doctors included) don't even know what the statistics actually are. I am a doula and have three VBAC clients due anytime now. Two of them were told about the HUGE, HUGE risks. I asked what percentage of VBACS had uterine rupture or serious complications and what the doctors' source was. Neither doctor even gave a percentage, just lots of adjectives and sighs and exclamation points. The risks of UR are less than 1% for a low, transverse incision and the risks are never 0. You have a risk of UR even if you have never had a c-section. You have a risk of UR even if you are planning a repeat section because it could happen before or during your surgery. Not to mention the risks of repeat surgeries.

Just be firm with her that you have made up your mind, point her to some resources to educate herself about the true risks and tell her you will talk to her about it after she has read the materials. She will either read and be educated, or hopefully leave you alone about it.

Thanks for all your replies. Hugs back to you!

Of course well after the fact I remembered that the same lady told me to get a vbac by going to the hospital too late for a c-section. That was 6 months ago. She has mental health issues - but still it was hard deflecting all she was saying. I seem to be running into negativity every other week. Ugh.
