Confession- I think the show makes the books much more enjoyable for me. I'm not sure if I would like the books as much if it weren't for the show I definitely enjoyed the first 5 without the help of the show. But afterwords, I kinda felt like Harris lost her steam a wee bit. I started thinking to myself "here we go again". It almost felt like she was recycling ideas. Mind you, I have only read up to 8 and can't seem to finish it.

I agree the show makes the books more enjoyable....probably b/c I can picture Eric while reading them, lol.
I very much enjoyed all the books, I saw a lot of negative reviews of books 8, 9 and 10, but I liked them all. (Haven't finished 10 yet)

I read books 1-9 before even watching season 1 of the show and while I know I'd love the show anyway, I do feel having read the books makes me enjoy it even more. I read way more into the characters because of the books - whether it is what is intended in the show or not!

I liked books 2-7 the best and while I've still enjoyed the rest and will read the series til the end I do feel it's about time to wrap it up. I have seen too many things go on long past when they should have stopped. My opinion only!

I kind of feel the same. But I want Sookie to end up with Eric so I think there needs to be some way to wrap that all up. I think there's supposed to be 3 more books? I'm kind of over the Sookie constantly being beat up and want her to live happily ever after with Eric.

I agree, too! I definitely want an *ending* and it needs to be with Eric for sure! Yes, I believe she's signed (or whatever it's called) for 3 more books.

Im halfway through book 1 already. I would have read the whole thing, but it was 930 and I have to get up at 445, so..........

I have to say that if you did read the books before the show, like back when they first came out, you must have been tickled with (so far) episodes 1-3 of season 1. I mean there is barely ANYTHING changed from the book in those episodes. I can think of a few tiny details, but thats about it.

One thing I will have tough time with, since im such an avid show lover already, is being distracted by picturing those scenes happening in my head. Plus I have the actual descrition of the characters already. I didnt have to come up with my own idea. So some of the characters that are totally different looking in the show might confuse me when reading the books. But really, I just cant wait to read more.

The thing that bugged me the most about rereading the books after starting the show is Eric's hair. In the books, it's long and stays that way. So the whole hair cut thing just seems even more bizarre. And Lafayette. He's got such a small part in the books, I kinda miss him.

Yep, if you read the Charlaine Harris blog, she states that she's going to write up to number 13 of Sookie, but is not sure that she would want to go on from there. She believes that all book series should be ended eventually.

I want Sookie to end up with Sam, and there have been some positive interactions between them in the last couple of books, so I'm holding out hope!

I know what you mean about the positive interactions. I can see it going that way. As much as I love Eric, I do like Sam more in the books than in the show.

I like book Sam way more than show Sam for sure. As much as I love Eric I still like Alcide and feel like Sookie should end up with a live person. Either that or she will have to turn.

Charlaine Harris has said she won't turn Sookie, so it probably won't be Eric. I love Eric, too, though. Alcide would be a good match. It'll probably be Sam, though. They can run the bartogether and have kids and live happily ever after. lol
eta: Sam is not my favorite, but that's how it'll prob go down.

So Im about 3/4 of the way through book 1 (I thought I was further the other night, but I must have been wrong) and its dawned on me: Where the heck is Tara? I thought in some of the wikipedia plot summaries I had read, Tara is in the books. What am I missing?

Book Bill seems different. So far anyway, but he seems much more confident and a bit smug. And some of the languegue he uses with sookie doesnt seem like show Bill at all. Its kinda confusing, at least for me since I met Show Bill first.

I also don't care for Book Jason right now. Atleast in the show, Jason didnt actually KNOW about Uncle Bartlett. In the book, he knew about the accusations Sookie made, but doesnt seem to believe her. Or maybe he does, but his comment of "Get Over It" really hit a nerve in me. WAnted to reach through the pages and bang his head on the steering wheel of his truck.

And one more thing. I found it pretty signifigant that in the book, when Bill was saving sookie from the ratrays, sookie hear TWO voices in the woods. They left that out in the show. I wonder if they werent sure if they were going to keep the whole Queen knowing what sookie is arch in the show, and decided to leave that bit out. Since I know a bit about the books, i know how signifigant that is. Or atleast I think I do.

Tara is in the books but she doesn't become a regular character until book 2 or 3.

I have always assumed that the two voices Sookie heard were Sam and Bill because Bill knows what Sam is and the little dog was there when Sookie was attacked.

I'm fine with Sookie with almost anyone and I agree logically Sam might be the best choice. But it'll depend how Charlaine writes it. At this point I can't see her being with anyone other than Eric since Charlaine has spent so much time on that relationship. But who knows what will happen in the next books. I don't agree Sookie would need to be turned to have a relationship with Eric and I know Charlaine has said she won't be. It's said in the books that for two vampires to stay together for very long is very unusual. But then I also watched Highlander (I'm talking about the show here, not the movies) and it was common for an immortal and a non-immortal to have a life-long, committed relationship and, obviously, one would die first but that is normal in all relationships.

Anyway, Gina, Tara is in the books but nowhere near as much as the show. She's a very minor character. I agree with what you say about Jason. Which is why I like him on the show - I was just surprised that I did actually like him on the show at all because I don't much in the books.

I do find the way most of the people/vampires on the show talk is very modern and in the books it's not. Eric speaks a lot differently and so does Bill.

Yes, when you know what's coming up there are a few hints you might not pick up on otherwise. Is it in book one when those other 3 vamps come to Bill's house? I can't remember...and then there's the fire and Sookie is worried Bill was in it? They also mention something about the queen which when you don't know what's coming is meaningless.

OK, almost done with book 1. I really only read it out of respect for the process (And I made that mistake with the Vampire chronicles. I had seen Interview with a Vampire so many times I thought reading it before the others would be a waster of time. Of course I was wrong and picked up right away that I was missing stuff when reading The Vampire Lestat) Its been a bit boring and just a recap of Season 1, if not less detail because its only from sookies perspective.

HOWEVER, I have been privvy to the introduction of Bubba, but something is bugging me. Am I supposed to know who the man from Memphis is? They havent come out and said who he is yet, and its driving me batty. Im about posative I didnt miss anything before he came into the piture (Like a small mention of a murderer in the area or something) because I only just started reading the book 3 days ago. So please, help a sista out before I pull out my eyebrows. many thanks.
