My understanding, and I could be wrong, is that you cannot get shingles without already having been exposed to the varicella virus. This is why, although the varicella vax was promoted as a way of preventing shingles ("you won't get shingles because you won't get chicken pox"), younger people who have been vaccinated are showing up with shingles---because they were injected with a live vaccine containing the varicella virus. Again...my understanding.

I hope your family gets through the pox with relative ease. Wondering if/when it will happen here--I have 5.5 yrs and 2.5 yrs unvaccinated kiddos.

Must use asap

My 14 MO had this last week. It is a virus. I used Sovereign Silver hydrosol. They were GONE within 15 minutes, the itching stopped in less than 5 minutes. There were in his eyes, ears, back......... This is tasteless and looks like water. Just put some on the pox. You can get this at the vitamin shoppe. This is the ONLY brand of silver I trust, have used it for years for myself.

Sorry to break up the excitement but allowing your child to get infected with chicken pox will put them at risk for shingles.

I never thought varicella vaccine can prevent shingles.

"I never thought varicella vaccine can prevent shingles."--don't know how to the the fancy quote box thingy.

I have a 17 year old 1/2 brother and I know that when he was little they were saying to vaccinate for chicken pox so your kid doesn't get chicken pox and therefore will also not get shingles. Not sure if they are still saying that or not.
But I have heard of more and more younger people getting shingles in recent years.

Not immune to shingles if you have had pox. it is the same virus, it always within the body. Can resurface as shingles in unusual circumstances (times of extreme stress). but you are definitely better off with the natural pox (lifetime immunity) and not the vaccine. the vaccine also lives on inside the body too. so it also can cause shingles of course.

I plan to use calamine when mine gets the pox. Here is what dr sears says:

Anyone with POX in IL/WI yet?

Just checking on the families I met during our CP fiasco. Anyone get it?
Not yet. But I keep hoping. Last night, Ben was a pain in the behind all night and I kept hoping that it was because he was going to come down with CP. He also woke up in the middle of the night, which is weird. I'm also in the process of weaning him though so that could also play a role.

Thanks again for your hospitality! I hope your girls are feeling better!
