I would like to join, if it's a private group (I'm not ready to come out on FB yet - we haven't even heard the heartbeat yet!)

i'd love to join a private group...private because most of my family doesn't know yet.

I just created a FB page this weekend. I have one friend - my husband who also just signed up. The reason I finally broke down is because I wanted to see pictures an old friend of mine told me she put up.

If it's really, really private I may join. May.

Tempting...
But I recently deactivated my Facebook account. I had to do something; it is too compelling, too much junk food for the social life (in that it is quicker and easier than real social interaction, and lulls you into thinking you got something worthwhile, because of the instant gratification, but in the end, I was getting socially malnourished from having my social needs falsely 'met' with it and neglecting real interactions).

It was also a huge timewaster that was a net drain on my life.

Plus all the yucky issues with pretty much selling your personal life away for free, forever, even if you deactivate your account.

Maybe I will pass, after all, despite the desire to get to know others of you better.

Here's the Electronic Frontier Foundation's latest update on Facebook's privacy issues, policies, and recent improvements. It's good to know what to do to maximize your privacy if you do choose to use Facebook:

Okay, here's the link: http://www.facebook.com/groups/creat...36588106361348

I made it a closed group so you have to ask to join. It's a bit more private that way. No one but members can see anything except that the group exists.

I'm curious - when you join does it show up in your friend's news feeds? Or does it show up on your profile? '

Maybe I'm being overly paranoid, I'd like to join but I really don't want to accidentally announce it to all my friends and family quite that way

Okay I can't figure out how to join . When I click on the link it goes to create group. Is that where I am suppose to be?

I belong to another local AP private group - it shows up under my group tab on the first page that appears on the side menu, if I click on that tab. The posts don't show up on my news feeds, I have to go to the group to see posts. I don't see it on my profile at all.

It's called the "Jan 2011 DDC"...you could always lie and say it's something else. :P
