How to get soap out of terracotta?

Hello! This is my first post in this forum. I have a question. We have a terracotta garlic baker thing that *someone* spilled handsoap all over. The inside bottom piece is sealed and smooth, but the top piece is just plain old terracotta. I washed it, but there is a dark spot still from the soap on the outside only. Anyone have thoughts on if it is safe to use, or if baking it in the oven will cook the soap down into the garlic we are going to eat?

I personally see no reason to have this item, as garlic tastes just fine baked wrapped in foil, but DH thinks the thing is super-great. So. Stuck with it.

Thanks for reading!

I don't know, but at least you'll get a bump up. I probably would try to rinse it out and let it dry. I have some terracota canisters that got some grease from the stove splattered on them. I can't get the splattered spots off of them.

Maybe you could simmer it in a pot of water to get all of the soap out?

Hehe, thanks guys. I think I'll try both these ideas. I also thought I might try smearing it with baking soda and seeing if that would absorb anything. I *really* don't like the stupid thing. Thanks again!

I personally have never been successful in removing any stains from stonewear, of which Terracotta would be inculded in.
Best of luck, if something you try work, please do post for everyone else to learn from.
thanks
