I found a Romertopf Clay Baker at the flea market on the way home today

I had been wanting one for a long time and never even imagined that I would find it second hand and for only $14!!!! I had just resigned myself to waiting for it for the next several years...

Anyway, at first it looked like it was brand new, but upon closer examination I found a few pen marks on the inside. I figured a toddler had gotten a hold of it and the mom decided she would get rid of it. When I brought it home, though, under better lighting I found finger prints and some sort of sticky stuff (tape?) on the bottom (inside).

In my mind there are two possible reasons for this:
A kid got to playing with it
or
It was used for something other than bread baking (though what it could be is beyond me...)

I think it is still usable and the pen marks don't bother me. However, the other marks do and I'd like to get them off before baking in it. I would think the greyish finger prints would come off with some very gentle scrubbing with baking soda and I could get the tape off with a bit of careful scraping. Anyway to make sure it won't contaminate my bread with anything I don't know about?

TIA!
