khalilah

welcome, i have to tell you i love your name and could you tell me the meaning? we are searching for islamic names that also fit into this culture and are having difficulty. would love any input you have... or could you suggest some references to search...of course we are searching the Quaran. i really like those baby name books or sites that give meanings etc. but have not found any that have names that both dh and i can agree on.. Also noticed that we are both in nj...private mail me if you like, I'd love to chat more online....

I have had a nice but tiring week. My brother and his wife are visiting from out of town and I definitely noticed how quickly I tire now. I had to take rest breaks during mall outings....how could this be already??? How am I going to feel in 3 months.... I guess more tired

stay well everyone, spring must be here somewhere!!

Hi mamas...just checking in....I don't know whats come over me,
but I have more energy now than I ever have....way different from my first pregnancy...when I was always tired... I mean I have the laundry done and hung out on the line by 8 am every morning....and the floors scrubbed and the sheets changed every weekend...I really hope I keep this up! And the sewing, I bust out a new apron top or spring dress for chloe daily...my oh my.

I love waking up every morning and waiting for the first little kick..baby kicks mostly in the late evening...so its just my little reassurance for the day, that baby is growing.

I still cannot think of a boys name...so if it is a boy...he'll just be nameless...everything i see is girl stuff..every name I love is girls..diapers..girly print...I dunno if its because I'm carrying a girl, or I have a girl...LOL
ah well..everyone enjoy their sunday!!
I could have sworn I was having a girl and I only looked at girl's clothes and thought about girls names and had dreams about my little girl. And....then.... last week we found out we're having a boy. What a shock! DH and I had not even talked about boy's names because everytime we did it ended in a fight. We could not agree on anything. Last week DH spent some time searching for names and the one he liked is the one we agreed upon. Our lbb will be named Elias Christopher. We now have several cute little boy outfits and have painted his room blue and yellow. We picked out a crib that is not too frilly for him. I started to realize that it is going to be great to have a son and I am getting very excited.

Good luck to everyone else trying to find a name - it's hard work! And I hope you are all doing well.

I *think* I have a name picked out, but I don't want to tell anyone, SORRY. I did'nt even tell my mom yet, or my partner, for that matter. I want to research the name sounds that I'm feeling a lot more before I tell anyone a definate, KWIM?

Sadly, I love the "rainbow" names, like rain, sky, juniper etc. but my partner does not like those. Oh well, I guess I'll see after the baby is born, who they really are..

Well, I just had a nasty stomach virus. I went from being ok to having to have an IV in about 12 hours. I'm doing better now and have a little bit of an appetite back. My ds has had it too but didn't get dehydrated. I nursed him though the whole thing though. I couldn't believe how bad it got. I'm still queasy anyway so that probably had something to do with it. Make sure you take care of yourselves.

We still haven't had an ultrasound. My ob was supposed to put in to have it approved by my medical group 3 weeks ago. It usually only takes 10 days tops, so i don't think it went in. It's ok. I'm not sure I want to know the sex of the baby. See, i've always wanted a girl but now that I have a boy, I don't think I would be as great of a mom to a girl. I think i'm a great boy's mom. I've always been a very stong independent woman and I think I would expect too much if I had a girl. I know that whatever the baby is, it will be great and will fit in to our family. I'm just freaking out a bit.

I'm so envious of the ladies with lots of energy! Just cleaning the kitchen after breakfast does me in. On the plus side, I've been spending lots of time just sitting around with ds in my lap reading or "talking" which I'm savoring since I'm sure opportunities for that kind of thing will be limited in a few months.

I finally got around to buying girlie outfits and now I'm in the swing of things. I wish dh would get as excited outwardly as I am, though. He's excited but not gushing ~ drives me crazy as hormonal as I am. :

No call back from my OB re: the diabetes test so this will make the first out of three one hours that I passed. The one hour is so unreliable I expect the numbers to come back high regardless. My doc said to keep track of a fasting and a one hour after a meal for a week and we'd use that as a determining factor as to how to proceed. All of them are way under what he said was the limit so I'm happily optimistic on that front. Seems like an easier way to test for gd, IMO.

I have an ultrasound scheduled for April 20th to check the location of the placenta. It was lying rather low and close to the cervix so they're keeping an eye on it and starting me on bi-weekly visits two weeks earlier than normal. Goody.

Hi all - I'm feeling good, but don't have that much energy (tired every night).

Had my 22 week appt yesterday and all is well. I go back in five weeks and have to do the glucose (Blech!). Brought my oldest ds with me so he could hear the heartbeat (he's so anxious to feel the baby move, but hasn't been able to yet, so I thought he'd like to hear his little sister).

The CNM did say I had gained too much weight. I am not that concerned about it though. Maybe I should be, but I only gained six pounds in the first 16 weeks (as compared to fifteen + with my other pregnancies). Since then I've gained 9 more. It's a lot from 16 weeks to 22 weeks, but I don't think it is that much for the total time. This is the first time anyone has mentioned my weight in any of my pregnancies and I'd been feeling really good, but this morning I looked in the mirror and just felt fat!

I went out at lunch time today to do a little retail therapy (things are yucky at work right now). I bought Kiersten's going home outfit at Baby Gap (my boys both had outfits from Gymboree that they ONLY wore for coming home & that I have saved for them in their keepsake boxes). It was on sale and is long pants/short sleeves, a matching hat and socks. They freak out at the hospital if they don't have a hat even though it will probably be in the 90s or 100s when she is born! It's my one big splurge item that I buy at those expensive stores!

awww..poor mama.....so what you've gained 15lbs so far??
and your more than halfway through the pregnacy??
that doesn't sound like too much to me?

I started at about 117....and I'm at 134 now....I suck at math..wait...17 lbs I've gained? right..? right.

it was my 22 wk visit today and I measured at 24cm! I guess I'm having a growth spurt cuz I've been right on w/ the measuring until now... the baby's heartbeat was so strong..at 155-160
next month I have to do the diabetes thing..she left the orange soda stuff for me...a step up from last pregnancy when it was sugar syrup in a urine speciman cup...kept in the fridge for a month..LOL
and after next month's visit we start the bi-weekly appts...I can't believe how fast we're moving right along!
its so nice she just comes out to the house too..no gathering up dd and having to drive...

oh..public service announcement~USA BABY is having a sale, up to 70% off select items incl. cribs, linens, car seats, high chairs...and more one day only March 27th 8a-8p

DH made chili!!! oh boy *runs off to the chili pot*

Gee, I've gained at least 25lbs, and my midwife hasn't even blinked. She said she's not that concerned with weight gain, especially if I am a healthy weight to begin with, which I was. I gained 40lbs with ds, and was totally healthy the whole way through. My next appt. is this Friday, which I am looking forward to!

I've found myself a little obsessed with gender. We did the one ultrasound, and dh stood firm, so we did not find out. I agree that we don't need to, but man, I am can't stop thinking about boy/girl/boy/girl. Aaahh! I keep taking all the old wives gender prediction tests. Most say girl, some say boy, but who knows. And the heartrate isn't helping any. My midwife listened for 5 minutes straight the other day because I was concerned about not feeling movement, and it varied from 130 to 156 - so what does that mean?!?!?!
what is it with dh's and not wanting to know?
I keep *begging* for an u/s..but he won't hear of it!!!
pooh
I could commit to a name..buy clothes...more importantly I don't have to get such gender neutral diapers...

yeah..with chloe I gained almost 60 lbs....it all came off though...
hoping to stay with at least under 40 this time~but I won't stress...I'd rather be overnurished than undernurished...I spose
LOL

and I just bought a 2 piece swimsuit..I can never wear them (see note about 60 LB weight gain above) so my stretch marks are streched and I just have a big belly....looks great in a bikini IMO..!!!

94 and sunny tomorrow....pool!!

I'm so jealous of you ladies who live in the south. You get your summer way early, but then again, it just keeps getting hotter and hotter, and by the time july rolls around, you'll be sittin' like fried eggs in the shade.

I'm glad I live in canada~~~ not too hot, not too cold( depending on your definition of cold), just right.

So here we are waiting for our babies to arrive
... july 04'...
and our bellies get bigger by the day.
I sure hope that we all have the long awaited birth that we've always dreamed about, and that our babies enrich our lives like the little angels that they are.
Maybe it's too soon to say these things, but july will come before we know it
...... here's to the health, strength, and happiness of our bodies to help us through these last few months, and beyond....

hi everyone...

i had a mw appt this week and everything is fine... I can't believe that after next months appt i have to start going every 2 weeks!! Time really has flown by this time. I've gained 26 lbs so far... including 12 since the end of 1st trimester. I am thrilled with this as I gained 60+ with my first daughter. I feel good...just have to slow down a little bit.

I am getting the nesting and organizing bug in a big way. I am redecorating my dd bedroom. She finally moved into it for most of the time and is now requesting to make it her own. I am so excited to this for her!! She is now old enough to really have ideas and preferences for her space so I want to make it special for her. The baby's room will remain storage space until he/she is actually using it...probably about age 4!!:LOL

have a great day!!

I really *didn't* want to know our baby's gender, but I was overuled by dh and the other kids! So, at the u/s I had at 20 weeks, we did look, and definitely saw little boy parts---no doubt about it. That was 3 weeks ago, and I'm still feeling like I'm carrying a girl! I know that u/s can be wrong, but this was done at a high-tech center with really good equipment; the pictures are just too clear to deny that yes, that is a leg-and-a-leg-and-a-leg .

I think we had our "summer" over the last few days. I'm in coastal northern CA, and while we can get some really nice, sunny spring days, our summers tend to be cool and foggy---ugh. So any time we get a run of sunny, 70-ish degree days, no matter what time of year, we all try to get outside and enjoy our summer before it really becomes summer! Today it's back to cool, cloudy, and even showery weather.

Has anyone else discussed variations of the orange-drink glucose screen with their healthcare folks? I used to decline it completely, but being an "older" mom at 43, my doctor thinks it prudent to do the initial screen. I don't know...Last time, when I was 40 and pg, I ate a high-carb, big breakfast, and had blood drawn an hour after that. I don't think that's very common practice, though; the lab tech who drew my blood got very, very concerned that I had actually *eaten*, rather than just chugged the drink!

Hope everyone's feeling well. I'm enjoying discovering some of my little guy's more regular active periods . There's a real, live BABY in there!!!

I discussed the jellybean variant of the gd test but was told it's generally not done {at least in this area} unless a medical condition precludes the drink. The fasting tests I've had are always high, which I think makes sense. The last three hour test I had I was given a high carb diet for three days prior to ensure I had adequate amounts of sugars in my diet to result in a more accurate reading {must have worked b/c I passed }. This last one-hour {new OB} was very specific that I have a good breakfast {high protein balanced but not less than the number of carbs, no sugary juices or jam, etc.} so my body wouldn't freak out with such a high amount of sugar all at once. No call back to schedule a three-hour a week and a half later.

But, I will say, with ds I definitely had gestational diabetes. My blood sugars were dangerously close to 200 after an hour while following the diabetic diet and were still fairly high even while on insulin.

Ladies please don't stress about the weight, even if your doctors are. Stress is so much worse than some extra weight! All women gain differently! It is a crock of s*** that women should gain 25-30 pounds, just like it is silly to think a baby over 7 pounds is too big! We are all different shapes and sizes. As long as you are gaining and eating healthy with some indulgences you should be fine! I am a fine example of how silly the weight gain thing is. I am usually 127 pounds at 5'7", I gained 60 and 70 with both my girls. I ate healthy and walked 2 miles a day/five days a week and did tae bo. What in the world did I do wrong? Nothing, I just gain a lot, and it all goes away by month3-6 post partem, I also have 9 and 10 pounders at birth. I am now 23 weeks and have gained 22 pounds, I cannot imagine what I would look like at 9 months, having gained only 25-30 pounds,(I have long limbs so everyone thinks I am lighter than I really am) I know, Kate Moss with a watermelon under her shirt Ok, I am done ranting! I just get so irritated that it is such a stress! The well being of the mother and baby are most important, your happy stress free thoughts are important! Diet is important, but not some extra pounds that will nourish you and your babe!

Ok, I really am done now Good to hear that everyone is feeling so good. I have had lots of energy, except on the days that my allergies are bothering me. I think walking has really boosted my energy level. We have an unused corral next to our house that dh mowed a path around the perimeter so I can walk while the girls play. I have been getting in about two miles a day. I have my second mw appointment on Thursday. Can't wait to hear the heartbeat again! I have been lazy and have not ordered my longer tube for my fetascope, need to do that soon so I can listen to the heartbeat at home! Talk to you all later!

Even with the Kaiser HMO, a variation to the glucola was no biggie to my NP/CN<, she just said, figure out what equals 50g sugar, eat a breasfats with NO other sugars and show up at the lab 1 hour after the 50 grams of sugar.
And really, its the artificial flavors and dyes in the glucola that bug me more than the sugar.

Right on ChildoftheMoon, you tell 'em!
Kate Moss with a water melon!
:LOL

So, I am having just awful lower back pain.
I have kind of tried doing different stretches, curling pelvis in, etc but some days it's really debilitating.I'm only 22 weeks. I think I need to find some kind of solution before it gets worse...
Anyway gotta go, will check in here tomorrow after midwife appointment.

Snowy owl, you could try chiropractic, maybe? I think it's great do to in pregnancy, as the body "relaxes" and the spine adjusts.

I've been reading this book, that I mentioned before (ithink) called rediscovering birth, by sheila kitzinger. Right now I'm at the part where she talks about women in all these different cultures who get FREQUENT, FULL BODY MASSAGES while they are pregnant. No fair!!! Here's me running to the phone to see if any massage therapists in my area will do that.

when the midwife came she said most of the mamas refuse the glucose orange soda stuff....she said that regular orange juice has about 25g of sugar per cup..and after 2 cups its the same as the glucose drink. She also offered to do an accucheck~finger stick rather than a venipuncture~needle in the arm.

since my insurance is covering the homebirth..I don't want to refuse anything and give them reason not to pay...I wouldn't want to drink a bunch of it~but I consider it to be like an orange soda pop or something..I'll live.

The thigns people say...

Yesterday at work a woman asked me how many weeks I was. I told her almost 26 and that I would be passing into the third trimester next week. Her response, "three more months!? are you having twins?" What do you say to something like that? I've gained 20 pounds but because my fundal height is so high, my belly doesn't really look that big. Jeez, what do you think she'll say when I'm at 36 weeks???

I'm starting to feel pretty stressed over our homebirth midwife situation. The one I like the most doesn't use a prorated fee schedule even though she would be starting to see me in my third trimester. I found out that my insurance company (an HMO) provides no coverage of out-of-network providers except in for the fee for the actual delivery. $2600 seems like a money to pay out of pocket right now (plus her exam fees on top of that). Dh says I should interview more MWs since I keep getting hung up on the money. What do you think???
