DH had a really good point,

I am pregnant and GBS positive. We have to sign an Against Medical Advice form if we refuse antibiotics. DH said "Do moms who give their babies formula right away when they could nurse, have to sign one?". He said it only to me though. I thought it was an excellent point. It is against medical advice to formula feed when breastfeeding is an option, right??

Yeah, right! No, unfortunately, it's not against medical advice, but it should be. Well, maybe it is for a few doctors, but not the majority.

And not to pick on you, but do you really have to sign an AMA waiver? What catastrophe would occur if you refused to sign to waiver? Or is that yet another right to choice that's being violated by hospitals threatening to call CPS? It wouldn't surprise me if it was.

so sorry you're having to deal with that!
I guess you've already tried to get your care provider to let you take the test again in a few weeks and try to cleanse, etc.? Will he/she not do that?
(that is exactly why i refused to take the stupid test, but dang if i didn't have the risk factors etc and agree to the antibiotx anyway).. stinky situation all around.

I'm going to retest on Friday, but at our hospital, they consider any negative after a positive a false positive. I'm hoping labor goes really fast and we don't have time for them to administer abx anyway. I'm going to try to wait it out at home as long as I can.

Good question!

You might want to ask around, but when I had my kiddos and was GBS+ for both, I was told that refusing abx meant that they would do all kinds of blood tests and monitoring of the baby after it was born. I felt that it was less invasive for me to go in early and get the abx than all they were going to put the baby through if I refused.

I actually found that I liked being at the hospital early in labor. With my first, they let me leave the hospital and walk around town and just come back every four hours (this was in NYC, so I labored all around Union Square). With my second, we lived in Maine and the hospital had a jacuzzi that I just planted myself in for most of my labor. It was nice to not have to rush to the hospital while in heavy labor. I was rather surprised at how much I liked going in early because I had had been planning both times to just labor at home as long as I could.
