Is this effects from anesthesia?

My 4 yo lab had her teeth cleaned yesterday. She was put under anesthesia.

She seemed to do great but, was pretty mellow all night long which is to be expected.

My concern is that she started this throat clearing thing when she got home. She would clear her throat constantly. Again, I figured just the affects of anesthesia. But, she's still doing it and we're coming up on 24 hours. She doesn't seem to be doing it as frequently but, when she does it, she does it multiple times and then settles down. And, she's still really, really mellow.

She is eating, drinking, peeing, pooping etc... and her gums look fine - she doesn't look like she got an infection or anything.

Does this sound like it's effects from the procedure? How long would you let it go?

Won't your vet be calling you to check on your dog? All the vets I've dealt with here will always call about 1-2 days after a dog has come home from a procedure, especially one involving anesthesia.

If it were me, I'd just call the vet. Our vets or vet assistants are always happy to answer these kinds of follow-up questions over the phone and will let us know if it's something worth bringing the dog back in for.

I doubt they'll call to check. They're just a clinic specializing in dental, spay/neuter and vaccinations.

They did say that I could call with questions and their turn around time is 24 - 36 hours.

Just thought I'd check here and see if anyone experience anything like this.

But, she actually seems better??? She hasn't made the noise since I posted which was a little over an hour ago. She's still pretty sleepy but, they said that the effects of anesthesia can last 24 hours and that they may be a little off from what's "normal" for them for up to 48 hours.

Our puppy is trying to engage her in play and she seems to be perking up. So, we'll see....

They would have done a trach tube when they put him under general anesthesia. That can most certainly irritate the throat, and cause him to want to clear his throat.

Thank you She's so much better this afternoon. No more coughing/throat clearing, playing and more active.
