What a conference can be!

I hope this doesn't come off as an ad - I'm not working for the conference, although I have in the past - but I just had to share this amazing promo a group of teens has put together for the HomeSchool Assn. of California: look on this page for the video near the top: HSC Conference 2010 Promo - Trust the Children. This is what a conference can be like! And I must say that this video can't even do it justice. If the conferences near you aren't like this, I'd encourage you to do whatever you can to try to bring them around to this approach, because a conference can really have a wonderful influence on the whole family and provide amazing connections for everyone that can last even after they go back to their own towns. My son and his friends used to have other teen friends coming to town from all over the state to see them after meeting at these in the teen activities there.

I loved it so much that I want to go to to it and I don't live in California!

I have not attended our conference because I was always working. Now I can go , but I'm broke

Our conference doesn't provide that much for the kids though..I would love to promote that kind of involvement!!

People have come from all over for it - Japan, England, I can't remember where else, but we used to have a list. One year a bunch of old homeschooling cyberpals from around the country decided to meet there. One of them came up to me dazed, with eyes like saucers, and said, "I have never seen anything like this!" She was used to the kind where parents attend alone and go in and out of lectures on various aspects about "how to homeschool." This one also has workshops on every imaginable subject, but it's a whole different feel. The schedule is absolutely mind boggling with all the things offered. And there's always a big Saturday night celebration for everyone outside in the courtyard with dancing of different kinds - the whole weekend feels like a celebration. Okay, I'll stop now, because once I get going, I can go on and on and on about it. Lillian

My family would love that. I wish we had something like that close to us.

That looks like a great conference! I'm glad to know that it exists, even though I'll probably never get to go.

Looks amazing! Where can we sign up for next year?! But seriously, I'd love to plan for something like this!

I think the sign-ups for next year will be not long after this one's over. I forgot you're coming to CA! Definitely make plans! I read posts from several of the families after last year's that their children had been asking, "Can we move here to live?" Lillian

Lillian - we moved! In fact, we finally got our stuff today (after 5.5 weeks!) We'll be up to our eyeballs in putting away, but I definitely want to watch for this. I just mentioned to my husband that I want to do a road trip and include this next year. He's all for it. It sounds fabulous!

I'll have lots of road trip suggestions for you when the time comes! Remember to get in touch. And in the meantime, you're sure going to have a lot to see and do down there. - Lillian
