Name Opinions

Thread Starter
We still have almost another 4 weeks until we find out the sex, but DP and I have been throwing names around. We apparently have very opposite naming styles, so its been hard to find something we both love.

What are your thoughts on Fiona Rose? Baby's last name will start with "Sch" and is 2 syllables. We both love it, but arent sure if it can surpass the Shrek references??

For a little boy its more of a struggle. I fell in LOVE with Elias Vincent and I love the idea of a nickname of "Eli". DP however, suddenly isnt crazy about that and likes the reversed Vincent Elias better.

So I guess those are the names in the runnings and Im just looking for unbiased public opinions. I also love Max as a nickname for a boy (but not Maxwell) and Ellie (but DP nixed Eleanor, and I dont like Eliana).

So feedback and other suggestions are more than welcome!

I do like Vincent Elias better than the first way, it seems to flo better, and I don't think that stops you from using the nickname.

As for the Ellie one, how about Ellen or Elly as a full name?

I like X's so max was talked about, my DH likes Maximus, but I'm still not sure if he is serious, it's hard to tell with him sometimes. I think he is.

As My general rule I spend a lot of time saying them out loud, just the first and last name, since that is what they will say and be called nearly all the time. Some of the first names I liked I realized just didn't flow with our last name, others only sounded good with the middle included and that would not be the day to day, so we kept looking.

I love Fiona, but I'm a little biased I only got one comment about Shrek (from my MIL who hates all our name choices) when we told people her name when she was still in utero.

I like Elias Vincent

I think some people make the Shrek thing out to be way more of a deal than it is. By the time this kid is old enough to watch it, how old will the movie be? Fifteen years or so? Fiona was around as a name long before and will be after Shrek is forgotten. So I think it's fine.

Vincent and Elias are both fine names. No one - well, barely anyone - will ever know his middle name, so it truly doesn't matter what that middle name is or how the two names "flow" together. Use the name you like best as the first name and let the other be the middle.

I love the name Fiona, but I've seen all the Shrek movies way too many times (little brother) so it's out. It's funny because one of my favorite shows is Burn Notice and I'd love it if I had a daughter that could kick as much a$$ as Gabrielle Anwar's character does.

I like Elias Vincent, rather than the other way around, although that's mainly because I love the nickname Eli, as well.

My friend Max is JUST Max... Its not short for anything.

And Ellie can be a nickname for a lot of names... names starting with L, names with an L sound in them... like Marielle can be an Ellie...

Elinor was one of my pics and my DH shot it down. I think Ellie would be such a cute name for a little girl

I really, really like all of your name choices. In fact, you have a couple names on your list that we have used or are considering.

It's hit or miss with references. If they're a problem they'll probably pass soon. I hate when a character comes out with a nice name and then people act like the name was invented for the movie. Fiona is very pretty...if you love it, I say go for it. I think it sounds great with Rose. FWIW, my sister was almost named Catrina. Then my stepmom saw a kids' show with a witch named Catrina so she nixed the name, even though she loved it. It was a popular show (movie?) at the time but I can't even remember what it was now. The references are definitely short-lived.

Elias Vincent vs. Vincent Elias:
I prefer Elias Vincent, I think it flows better. When I say "Vincent Elias" out loud it kind of blends together - "Vincentylias" - but Elias Vincent sounds nice. I guess it doesn't matter too much because you probably won't use the names together unless the kid gets in trouble ("VINCENT ELIAS, GET OVER HERE THIS MINUTE!").

I have a Max (Maximilian) and I love that name. It is somewhat popular, but I don't care because he's homeschooled and he rarely runs into another Max.

What about Maxfield?

I like Elias, but I like Vincent better. Girls' names are all lovely, though I'd avoid Ellie. With all the Ellas out there, it's a very, very, very popular name for girls right now.

I love your name choices!

We know a little girl names Ellie whose name is Elizabeth. There really are so many variations you could use to end up with the nn Ellie.

I really like Vincent but I'm not crazy about the nn Vinny- so I might use Vincent as a middle name just for that reason.
