PPD after child is 1 year old?

Hello,
My daugher is now 15 months old...and for the past 2 months I have been spiraling into full blown depression. Could this be considered ppd or is it too late for that? I guess it doesnt really matter how I label it...depression and anxiety is depression anxiety...correct?

PPD can happen anytime in the first year or after. So yes, it certainly could be PPD. Are you nursing more/less? That could be the cause... hormones have a definite effect on mood.

Hopefully you can get in to talk to someone, and perhaps try something to see if it helps you. Zoloft helped me tremendously with anxiety.

I think it may technically be called "clinical depression" rather than "PPD" if it starts after a year postpartum, but that's just a technicality. Treatment options are the same for PPD or clinical depression (or anxiety disorder vs postpartum anxiety.)

My PPD doesn't "kick in" until I begin weaning my LO. It's happened with both of my DC sometime around 16-24 months.
It's the huge shift in my hormones that drives it.

I'm sorry you're feeling like this. Is there anyone you can talk to about this or get started on a treatment regimen?

my post partum anxiety lasted until DD was 2.5 years old, but was almost exclusively in the evenings after she went to sleep. I posted more on another post. But I was constantly worried DD was going die in her sleep. I checked on her several times a night until she was 2.5 years old. Now Im fine. I even unplugged the monitor. Boy was DH proud of me that day. haha.

I wonder if yours was delayed due to breastfeeding. My milk never came in, after the colostrum, so I didnt BF for very long, I tried for 6 weeks with no luck. I cant recall, but I feel like its possible when I stopped trying to BF the anxiety may have kicked in. It wasnt right away. But somewhere towards the beginning. Maybe there is a connection between weaning hormones and the onset...

Im pregnant again, due in Dec. I will be interested to see how I respond post partum. I will be trying to BF again. Hopefully we will have success this time!

Feel better soon mama. Someone told me to eliminate all caffeinated things, that really helped me. Apparently, you can develop a sensitivity to caffeine at any time in your life. Who knew. And that can lead to increased anxiety also!
