Interviewing while pregnant

Thread Starter
I have an interview for a middle school position tomorrow. I am 30 weeks pregnant, which would put me needing maternity leave about 6 weeks into the school year. Bad timing, to say the least.

I just need some general tips for dealing with this whole interview+pregnancy stuff. I know that my maternity leave would be unpaid, which would be fine. I know it'll only be 6 weeks long, which is fine.

My biggest concern is that the principal and superintendent will take one look at me and mentally toss me aside.

Of course this is tricky... I am replying both as someone who just interviewed while pregnant, and as a principal of a school. I think that if you really wow them, and come clean about your pregnancy from the get-go, and express your commitment to the school/position, you have a good shot. Of course, they cant ask you about your pregnancy, so I think that makes it even more important for you to mention it so that they can know your thinking about it.

Good luck!

i might think before hand about what things you could do in this job to make a sub seamless. so when you mention pregnancy, also mention how you will prepare in advance - that you want your books as early as possible to pre-prepare, etc.

Wow. You're a rock star.

I would be as upfront as possible--"obviously I'm pregnant, so..." Have a plan. And it might not hurt to emphasize that you're committed to finding a long-term position, so that they don't think they're investing in you and not going to receive a return on that investment.

Good luck!
