Chart Help (xposted from TTCAL)

Will someone please look at my chart? My coverline looks low at 97.9 which moves my O date earlier than i think it should be when i look at chart. When I put EWCM on cd19 then my cv changes to 98.1. When I double check methodology in TCOYF, cv should be at 98.1 because it is .10 degrees above previous 6 temps prior to temp rise.

I usually don't chart cm because I don't check internally. But cd19 I wiped and it was on tp. So I put it between thumb and finger and it was what I imagine EWCM to be.

My Ovulation Chart

TIA!!!

i think you are exactly right. if you go to the ovulation detector box under your chart on ff, and click tuning/override and set it the FAM, i think it will tell you the same thing here.

Karmab ~ Thanks for the help. I did change the method but it still didn't change my cv or O date. I'm not sure what FF sees that I don't see.

Hi there,

First of all, I am so sorry for your loss. Trying to conceive after a loss is especially hard, isn't it?

As for coverlines... FF has a funky way of coming up with the position of theirs. You can read about how/why they do that on their site. I am a long-time TCOYF charter, so it was strange for me too. Just ignore the coverline. It has nothing to do with the ovulation date.. or i should say that where the coverline is won't affect or be affected by the date of ovulation. It is a somewhat arbitrary line used to differentiate between the pre and post-ov phases.

That said, I would actually guess that you ovulated on CD20. Certainly according to TCOYF rules, it would be then. Additionally, if you had EWCM on CD19, that lends even more evidence to your not having ovulated sooner (you usually won't get EWCM after ovulation).

I hope this is helpful. And good luck to you! Hope you get that positive test soon! hugs.

Chart Help (xposted from TTCAL) - updated w/ response from FF

Scarletjane ~ Thanks for the info. I tried to locate info on their site but could never find exactly what I was looking for. But you were right on with their explanation as well.
I was charting with the new version of TCOYF but it was just horrible and slow when it was first rolled out. So I switched to FF. And FF has the iphone app that communicates back and forth with your web account.

Here is the response from the FF support.
FAM uses the concept of "Rules of Thumb" to discard temperature and adjust the chart to what would make more sense. Our system does this automatically and set the coverline to a value that makes sense for the entire chart. The bottom line is that your body has not read the FAM rules for coverline and does not follow them at all. These rules are a simplified way to interpret charts manually. I would strongly recommend that you start charting at least cervical fluid data if you want any accuracy in your chart interpretation. Temperature data is rarely enough.

So I guess FF is seeing those couple of high temps as rules of thumb and discarding them on their own. I went back in and put EWCM for CD19, and it is showing my O date as CD20 now. I just so hesitant to put that data in since I only observe it externally. Guess I will need to venture into learning how internally. Or maybe this month will work for us and I won't have to worry about it!!!

gosh, it's so funny how many different ways there are of charting! There is another philosophy I know of that only has people chart CM that is found on the exterior. They say that if you start trying to find it internally, it's not as accurate. I don't know about only charting what you see externally, but I have never heard of not taking it into consideration. If it makes it to the outside, it's more profuse, meaning I would think you'd want to lend it even more credence. I would definitely chart the EWCM. hope this is helpful.

good luck!
