How soon to hear heartbeat via Doppler?

I have my first midwife appt on Thursday. I will be 8 weeks. Is that too soon to hear the baby's HB via Doppler? I can't seem to remember how many weeks I was when I heard the HB with my other 2 children.

I think 8 is really early unless you are very very thin (and even then it could be hard).
I think 10-12 is when people start hearing it.
I have my appt tomorrow at 10w1d and I hope we hear it but I've never heard it that early before so not so sure...

I heard DD's hb on the doppler at 11w3d. The OB seemed hesitant to do it at all before 12 weeks but I kinda begged.

When I went in for my 11 week check, we couldn't hear it.

We got to hear the heartbeat on a Doppler last week at 10 weeks and 3 days.

However, it wasn't easy to find, and I felt BRUISED for 3 days after! (Seriously, all the pressing really hurt. But it was worth it. ) We only caught 2 quick "glimpses" because the baby was "swimming around in there." Not enough to record the bpm, but enough to hear a strong and healthy hb!

FWIW, my midwife said 8 weeks was too early, but she was confident she could find it at 10 weeks, even though this is my first babe and I'm not exactly super skinny. But you might have a chance at 8 weeks since this is your 3rd!

I heard it at 10 weeks with both of my kids.

I had an appointment today at 8 weeks exactly and we couldn't hear it although we really tried. I am a thin mama (115-120 pre preg) and I have a forward tilting uterus so I can feel my uterus but still couldn't detect a heartbeat via doppler. We went ahead and scheduled the next appointment for 5 weeks from now just to be absolutely sure everything is going to be good and sticky and loud and clear.

My midwife says 12 weeks. I have a doppler and I thought I caught the heartbeat for just a second last night (178) but then couldn't get it again. I'm 10w6days and um, ruebenesque...

When I went in at 11 weeks with DD1 they told me they probably wouldn't be able to hear the heartbeat on the doppler and not to worry about that (I had miscarried just prior to the pregnancy and was really worried about it) but they were able to find it. They did an ultrasound right after to double check dates as well but it was nice hearing the heartbeat on the doppler.

with my 1st it was 14 weeks, nothing at 12 weeks and she was going to send me for an u/s at 14 but they found it. Normally they find it around 11-13 weeks though.
I am going to get my doppler out tonight to try even though it could be early.

No, I would not expect to hear the heart beat so early, which is normal.

I know it is hard to wait!

Thanks for the replies! I had a feeling it was still too soon. Hopefully next time

With most of my OB's they wouldn't even use a doppler to look till your 2nd trimester unless the appt was after 11weeks then they wold try.

I got my dd's HB at 8w, 3d with a Doppler I rented. My placenta was posterior with her. I used a Huntleigh with a 2MHz probe. I took awhile to find her, but I did and I had an appointment with my MW that afternoon and she wasn't able to. She only spent 2 minutes looking though. You have a better chance if you rent your own.

I am not skinny either, so it's possible with a lot of patience. I think the average is like 10-12w.

Oh, I should also mention that I just tried today to get the HB with this one and haven't found it yet (I'm 8w, 2d). All I hear is placenta wind noise, so I'm thinking it's anterior this time, so if that's the case, I can't imagine I'll hear anything until after 10 weeks. I also don't have the awesome quality doppler I had with Sarai. However, this also has a 2MHz probe, which goes deeper, but less wide than a 3MHz, so it's good for early on.

I was able to hear it at 10 weeks with my other kids.
I rented a doppler - should be coming next week and I'll be just over 10 weeks so I'm hoping to hear it then..can't wait!!

I'm 10w1 today and we did NOT hear the HB on doppler. Not for lack of trying.

I rented one with my last pregnancy and heard it in the ninth week at some point (maybe 8.5 weeks) and then my Dr could also hear it at my 9 week appointment (I was 9w 2d). If you have your own you can use more gel, try longer, etc... but as others have said it is kind of early. I rented one that is supposed to arrive when I am around 8 weeks. I hope it works!!
