Tip if you are renting a birth tub

I never in a million years would have thought of this so I figured I'd post it as it may help someone else.

My midwives dropped off the Aquadoula at 36 weeks. DH and I decided tonight to set it up (minus the liner and water ) as I'm getting close to my EDD... we just wanted to make sure we could do it, everything was there, etc. Anyway, we got it out of the bag and started setting it up and I noticed it smells like my midwives office. This is not a bad smell, it's just that "somebody else's house" smell. So I am really glad we got it out early, because I think if I was in labor smelling something unfamiliar would make me uneasy... sort of in a primal someone else has been in my territory sort of way.

It is recommended to do it even if you just have a "fishy pool". It is nice to let it air out for a bit to get rid of that plastic smell. Goodness knows I am super sensitive to smells right now.

Yes and remember to do this if you are laying out painters' plastic or shower curtains or tarps. They need to air out first! grossedout.gif No one wants to smell plastic while trying to breathe deep! Get a headache!!

Wow, great tip thank you! We are def renting one so I'll be sure to remember to set it up early(as early as we can since it's going in the middle of our family room where the kids play!) so it can air out. Are you able to move it while it's set up? Like if I wanted it to air out but couldn't have it in the family room could we set it up somewhere else and then move it closer to EDD?  =)

Several of my friends also used theirs in the weeks prior to delivery as an indoor hottub to help with those achy big baby pains:)
