gDiapers or Seventh Generation

Thread Starter
I've been doing a ton of research on these two brands, but am unsure of what to use, SG is cheaper, but do they leak more or are any way than gDiapers? I'm still new to diaper alternatives, how do you guys think biodegradable diapers compare to cloth diapers? Also anyone use like/hate amazon's subscribe and save program for refills?
Thanks!

When I was first looking into CDing, I was seriously considering the G Diapers, mostly due to the fact that then I wouldn't have to touch poop. However, after doing some more research on cloth diapers in general, I decided to go with FuzziBunz. The G-Diapers are definitely Eco-Friendly, but in the long run you'll end up spending about as much money as you would on disposables because you have to keep buying the inserts. And with the FuzziBunz, you actually don't have to touch poop at all, you just shake solids into the toilet, and the real messy stuff can go right into the washing machine. I spent about $200 for 12 of them and that's all I needed to CD full time (though I've purchased a few more simply because I love them). When I did the math, I'd be saving about $2,000 over the course of my DD's diaper-wearing years. And I think the Seventh Generation are disposables? IMO you should check out the FuzziBunz website and see what you think of their dipes.

I really like seventh generation diapers but they aren't biodegradable... there is no such thing as a biodegradable disposable diaper. I've never used g diapers but it is definitely a plus that you can get biodegradable inserts although it always seemed like a hassle to me. parts to be thrown away and parts that will need washing (leaks happen, even with the most perfect system... might be rare for those with the best system for their kiddo, but I don't know anyone who's NEVER had a leak) For me I felt it would just be easier to just have all of something I wash or all of something I toss.

I personally use cloth full time unless I need disposables (I do for trips) and then I use seventh generation. I also use cloth wipes with cloth diapers and earths best wipes with the disposables. Like I said, for me, it is way easier to just do one or the other rather than put each part where it needs to go to be taken care of properly.

My cloth choices are flats, prefolds, and OS snappiable diapers (such as bagshot row bamboo or sticky peas NRSS) I use some other random fitteds and a couple pockets here and there, but the first three are what I grab for first along with thirsties covers (only because I can't afford wool.. I'd rather use wool covers)

ditto on that.

i don't really have much to say about the 7G diapers, because they are disposables, and well, a sposie is a sposie. it may be safer for your baby, but if you're thinking of using these methods to be eco-friendly, using 7G diapers isn't going to make a big difference. i'm cloth all the way -- plus, you save a ton of money.

i use gDiapers occasionally with a prefold as an insert, which works fine, but i'm not too fond of the covers and would hate if that were my only option. the straps are in the back, which makes it more awkward to fasten. they say it is to prevent the baby from taking his diaper off, but it's silly really. if a baby is going to take his diaper off, he's gonna. my son takes his gDiapers off more than any other cover! plus, the insert gets pushed down in the liner all the time, and i end up having to change the complete diaper, not just the liner and prefold. the velcro is sort of sharp, so i have to make sure it's on just perfect so it doesn't scrape his tummy. they have left actual scrapes on my arm when i carry him. and they do leak - not during a regular wear period, but we never use them at night, or even when we'll be out and about for a long period of time. what i do like about them is that once it's stuffed and ready to go, it's quick to slip on the baby. this is the reason they are my husband's favorite to use.

as for the disposable liners, i hate them. they leak, and worse, once my son wore one for no more than three hours, and when i went to change his diaper there were little gel balls all over him. it shocked me. unknown ingredients against my baby's most sensitive parts are part of the reason i switched to cloth!

if you're into a different method of diapering, definitely look into prefolds! they are affordable and easy to use. when i was researching prefolds i went with green mountain diaper's cloth-eez prefolds because that's what everyone told me to use, and they were most popular everywhere i looked. however, we recently bought some chinese PFs and i like them so much better! not that cloth-eez aren't great prefolds, but my chinese PFs are softer and not as wide, and there is more pull to them, all of which allow a trimmer, snugger fit. i love them!

Cloth is WAY better than SG or G diapers.

We've switched to disposables for the last month or so and will continue to use them for the next few months while we're getting ready to and then moving. We've also used disposables exclusively for one child and partly for another (then mostly all cloth for the third). We used to use pampers and only pampers then with all the changes that pampers have done I went looking for another option.

We're now using nature babycare, I get them on amazon with the subscribe and save discount. They are made from non-gmo corn and have more 'cushiony' absorbent material and less gel (the only gel-free brand is tushies, which are upwards of 50¢ per diaper). I looked into the less expensive seventh generation but decided against them since they are not much different than mainstream brands. Their big claim is that they are chlorine free but not many diaper manufacturers still use chlorine to whiten the materials so that's not much of an issue. They are also still made from petrochemicals and are not biodegradable.
