Reassure me!

I'm hoping that this stage is like any other stage...once it gets unbearable, it's over. But, I'm hoping those of you who've recently had an 18 month old can offer some reassurance on the following:

Clinginess will decrease (or, alternatively, kid will want to be worn on my back again instead of only being carried in arms or clinging to legs/standing on my feet/pushing head between my legs as he crawls along the floor).
Nightweaning may become possible, allowing for some unbroken sleep for an exhausted mama
Playing with the dog's water dish obsessively whenever he gets access to that area will decrease (this is a silly one, but a drag, too; I'm always mopping up dog water)
Chewing on stuff...when does that end? Any tube of sunscreen, random stone, things of interest in others' homes, paper, or phone doesn't stand a chance. Anything you hand him goes directly to mouth.

Thanks for reading...most is just my frustration and tiredness talking. But, I just wonder what to expect, from those who have recently been through it!

18 months can be brutal. With DS, it was like flicking a switch when he got that old. Unluckily for us, the switch flick corresponded with a vacation with my parents and brother. Lovely (not). Yes, it gets better! For us, it was the terrible twos come early and the actual twos were completely fine.

I suspect the exact ages that all that behavior stops varies from kid to kid. DS is six now and doesn't do any of that anymore. DD is 2.5 and will still chew on sunscreen tubes and stones (why are those objects so yummy?) but not the other stuff.

With DS, Harvery Karp's Happiest Toddler book was very helpful. I also find the series by Ames and Ilg on child development really helpful whenever one of my kids gets to an especially annoying stage. Take lots of pictures though because 18 month olds still look adorable even when they are being a major PITA!
