have you tried rubbing w a bar of cocoa butter?

my DC never had it, but I have helped other mamas thru w this, and it works fairly well.

You really have 2 problems-- you want to balance whatever is causing it-- is there an underlying mild skin infection?

And you want to (GENTLY!) exfoliate the flakies. If her hair is fine enough, can you try a baby comb to gently lift and comb out the particles?

If you are not already doing so, please consider:
*using a mild castile soap (such as Dr Bronner's Aloe Vera Baby Mild or even Burt's Bees Baby Shampoo Bar) as the only shampoo,
*(you can add a little handful of baking soda to the sudsy hair and massage *in to help gently exfoliate),
*and rinse with clear lukewarm water, then a pitcher of water w a drop (1-2 T) of vinegar in it,
*then again w clear water.

Is her hair texture such that she needs a conditioner?

(sorry more q than a)

I have also heard EXCELLENT things about birch bud water (to replace the vinegar rinse-- but it is left on-- does not require the second rinse, AND it smells wintergreen-ish, rather than vinegar-ish) PM me for instructions to make some, or I'll post if you all are interested.

blessings-- hope it clears up

Have you seen a dermatologist?

I have heard that Neutrogena T-Sal shampoo can get rid of it...

Has she had any other eczema? I have had this type of scalp issue my whole life and mine it atopic dermatitis which is a form of eczema. Neutrogena T-sal works to give my regular shampoos a boost, but daily shampooing is essential. The more natural the better, but Dr. Bronner's is pretty drying, so I wouldn't reccommend it as a shampoo. If her scalp is flaking to the point that is scabs, make sure to only clear the loose flakes. If you try to pick out the attached flakiness, it will make it worse.

I always condition because eczema is a dry skin problem that is caused by allergies.

When i do this, sometimes her scalp bleeds

Thanks for these ideas

No, it doesn't seem to

Hello, thanks for your responses.

milkmama-no other part of her body has this. Could ezcema be only in one area?

KMK_mama- Have not seen a derm. Should we?

You might want to have a doc, a ped or a derm, take a look at it. That sounds like my ds- he had a big patch of it on his scalp (he was 6 at the time, he just turned 8) and he was complaining that it itched. I took a look and nearly fainted. Took him to the doc and it's psoriasis. It comes and goes, seems to be a little bit better now that we've moved to a warmer climate. We use T-gel shampoo when a patch of it crops up (it's stinky, but it seems to help). Thankfully, his hasn't been too bad and it's only on his scalp.
