AR, LA and TX vbac/midwife regs?

I know that there have got to be sites that give VBAC midwife regs by state but I am just not hitting it in my searches. Specifically, I need to know if it is legal for midwives to attend VBACs in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. The last time I looked, I don't believe it was in Louisiana but it may be in Texas? If this is right, can Texas midwives take out of state mommas?

Not legal in AR unless they are in a hospital.

AFAIK in TX a midwife cannot allow a VBAC at her birthcenter unless mom has had one successful vaginal delivery. I talked to a midwife back when I was pregnant and she said the only option for me was to have a homebirth with her.

It depends on if you want a CRNM or a CPM. I had a CPM for my home birth attempt in Texas with no legal issues involved. Keep in mind that Texas is VERY intervention oriented in the hospitals with an average CS rate of probably around 30%. I don't know if any of the birthing centers around Houston will attempt a VBAC since I didn't go that route.

Good luck!

I'm in Austin, TX and we are HBACing with a CPM. CNMs and CPMs can all do homebirth VBACs as well as in birthing centers here, both CNMs and CPMs in birth centers.

I'm pretty sure a MW will take you even if you are out of state, I'd think the only part they would make sure about is that the birth took place out of state? Not sure, but then again, don't know much about LA rules and such.

You could always go to the Farm in TN! I'd go there if I was further East and couldn't HBAC.

I do hear of some moms getting a hotel room to birth in closer to the MW, maybe you could consider this if you have to birth out of state, but can't find a birthing center that you click with?

Thank you for the replies. I live in LA, close to AR and a very few of hrs from TX. I am trying to get as much info right now. By the time I get my BFP I will probably have info on every midwife in TX! Maybe I will look into the Farm as well.
