In a dilemma about tubal ligation

Hi everyone,

I am schedule for my 5th cesarean in two weeks time.
As always I have been advised for tubal ligation as to continue will be life threatening.
I was told this even when I went for my 4th cesarean, but then i was strongly against it.
I conceived in a years time, and my elder kids too were born within a short gap of one another.
My dilemma now is,though I am sure I really don't want more kids, now or may be never,as it has taken a toll on my family life and other affairs.
Yet I am not very sure I want to make this change in my body.
I do have relatives who have had their tubal ligation done, and they are pretty fine about it.
Still, i am in a dilemma.
Any one in similar situation?

I had my 4th c-section seven months ago. I feel like we are done having children at this point but have not been told that I have to stop

For me, I decided not to get the tubal. Something about it just did not seem right for me. If you are feeling uncomfortable about this don't feel forced into it. There are plenty of options out there. Keep reading and think about the pros and cons of each option.

s and congrats on your baby

Are you being offered a tubal ligation at the same time as your caesar? If so, be aware that the success rate is lower due to the altered anatomy.

Thanks 4 blessings for the reply.Yes I have just started reading on it,bit late as I have a week only to decide.
i really don't want to get pregnant again,as these kids are really handful.
But I don't want to loose my freedom to choose too and yet worried about the health issues which are so much cautioned about.

Yes kate they are offering it at the same time. Thanks for this additional info,I didn't know about that.

I felt so pressured by both my doctor AND family with my tubal.
I had 4 sections...and my dr said that was enough and more or less said I would DIE if I had a 5th; so I had my tubal immediately after my last kiddo. I was SO pissed, sad and angry.

It's so sad when we're stuck having sections that are out of our control, then left infertile. I know I'm probably being "greedy" but I want more than 4 kids. At least the option.

Good luck!!

I know, mamacitac. It really seems kind of unfair as just coz we are Cesarean cases we have to tie the knot.
Still there are many ,who tie the know just coz they don't want more kids.
Thanks for writing back.
There is also tubal reversal, which I am reading about too.

If you're at all not decided, DON'T do it!
Get an IUD at your 6 week checkup. It's just as effective and gives you 3-10 years to decide for sure. People who are totally sure, love their snip, man or woman. But it's a huge source of regret it you're not sure.

I don't know your marital situation...

Dh and I have discussed this at length (Silly since we only have one yet)

The % of a reversal of a Vasectomy is MUCH high (98%) than tubal reversal (20-70%)

If we were 'sure' we were done Dh would get snipped because if we ever changed our minds then we could. It wouldn't be so horribly final, no matter how sure we were.

this of course has nothing to do with your c rate, just my overall thought.

Honestly from the sound of your post it seems as if you are being pressured t agree to the tubal...not a good thing for something that serious. Could it be a good option for you, sure, but it needs to be an option that YOU choose because its right for YOU.

I get the do it while they have you in the OR, but honestly it seems as if you need more time to decide what all your options are and BC there are quite a few options.
