What to do with a freezer of milk?

Im not sure where I should post this, but maybe someone here knows.

I have a freezer of breastmilk that I hate to throw away. I still have to pump from one side every morning to alleviate the pain from being too full.
It doesnt straighten out till my babies are 6 months old. I cant not let it balance itself out or I get plugged ducts very easily (very experienced with that- Little boobs- tons of milk!)

So anyway, what should I do with all this milk? Are there hospitals that need it? Do people take donated breast milk?
Later Ill be baking teething buscuits with it. but this will have expired by that time.

Donate it! My Cecilia has been on donated breast milk since birth; my breast reduction 10 years ago means that my supply is pretty low. If you were closer to me I'd ask for it myself, but shipping frozen milk from NY to AZ in the summer would mean me paying for overnight shipping and we're too broke for that!

You can go on www.milkshare.com and set up an account there, or consider checking out the tribe threads here on MDC and see if anyone there is looking for milk.

Definitely donate it. We're another recipient family, at 9 mos we still have a few donors that are making sure our little guy gets a bit of BM each day. We managed to keep him off formula until 7 mos through donated milk.

I found this blog months ago, its actually titled "How to live in poverty and still have it all" which is what drew me to it! This is a page of things to do with breast milk, (example: If you have a yeast infection you can add it to your bath water...) things of that nature. Hope it helps, and yea, Im also all for donating it too.

Also, Cristeen and Cecelias mama, Im sure this is redundant in your lives but have any of you with low milk supply tried supplements to boost it ( mothers milk tea, fenugreek?) I have had amazing luck with boosting mine, ds would grunt in his first weeks of life while nursing, like he was irritated, and I realized I wasnt keeping up with his need for milk. I take both lactation supplements and mothers milk tea by traditional medicinals. I have actually read that taking these boost the NUTRITIONAL value too, wahoo! Just a thought, tho Im sure this isnt the first time its been suggested so no offense.

wife to dh, momma to ds 3/10

Yeah, fenugreek really upsets my Cecilia's stomach, so I had to discontinue use. Too bad, too, because it was really helping my supply. But I eat oatmeal and take goat's rue and have domperidone on the way right now, hopefully it will help me as much as fenugreek did without the side effects!

That milk in your freezer can truly save and improve a baby's life.

Unfortunately the supps can only do so much when the babe can't suck properly and you don't respond to the pump. I had decent luck with Dom, but none of the herbals seemed to help all that much. But ultimately I just had to accept that the late start we got to correcting his latch basically ruined it. And if the babe doesn't suck properly, all the boosting in the world isn't going to help him move the milk.

Moving to Breastfeeding.

Also, please keep in mind that we cannot host threads offering or soliciting breastmilk. Anything that even hints of that needs to happen via PM or off the boards. Thanks!
