Direct-Entry Midwife (DEM)

CPM for this and last birth. Amazing! I had no idea how interventionist my CNM was with my first two (FSBC) til I found my CPM...I know this is not across the board, but it was my experience.

I had a CNM in a birthing center for my first birth.

Same CNM the next time around, except at home.

For this birth, I'm using a different homebirth CNM (my other one retired)

I have a CPM. Around here all of the CNMs work for OB/GYNs and hospitals. They aren't any less interventive than the doctors and hospitals. They do not attend homebirths and like many of the OBs, they aren't necessarily fans of homebirthing either.

My CPM is actually in a different state but is only an hour away and can practice here in my state. Both midwives I considered for this homebirth are CPMs.

My insurance does not cover it but our insurance won't cover any homebirth no matter the credentials of the birth professional attending.
So we are paying out of pocket but we don't mind. We actually enjoy paying her because her services are so worth it. She's also VERY flexible about coming up with payment plans or getting a portion of it after the birth if we can't quite make it beforehand. We are very lucky/blessed.

All of our CNMs work in the hospitals. The independent midwives are a mix of CPM and LM but my insurance won't cover them.

CNM. I wanted a balance between someone who is medically trained and someone who believes women are designed to birth.

CPM/LDM for previous birth at midwifery birth center, and planned homebirth this time with a new practice. The majority of non-hospital midwives are CPM here. There is one CNM at my previous midwifery practice, out of 5.

My MW is a CPM. When I first heard about HB, I was certain I'd want a CNM "just in case" (like that nursing certification would be better than the CPM's training). There are a few CNMs doing homebirths here, but as we're a very homebirth-friendly state, there are many more CPMs available. I found one who is just *perfect* for us, and can't imagine going with anyone else.

I wouldn't be opposed to a CNM in a state where that was the only viable option for a HB, but I do have a general caution about CNMs and the possible tendencies towards more medically-minded birth.

CPM/LM. CNMs don't do homebirth here.

I'm using a CNM practice right now because I love them, and that's what they happen to be. If we do switch to a homebirth plan, I'll be using a DEM. She happens to be our only local hb mw.

Ftr, my CNMs do homebirths, but we don't live in their state or within their coverage radius.

CNM. All of the homebirth midwives in the area are CNMs. Insurance covers them here and mine is very hands off and naturally minded.
