Hair loss after birth - when does it stop?

I didn't have this after the birth of my first child, so this is a new thing for me. I remember my sister complaining about it after her kids' births, but I don't remember how long it went on for. It's been about two months so far - it started when she was about 3 months old. My hair used to be very thick - not anymore!!

Is there anything I can do about it? Thanks!

Mine came out with dd2 starting about 4 months pp and ending about 9 months pp.

I got mine cut short, so I didn't notice it as much, and it looked fuller to me! That's about all you can do, or wear a hat.

If it's any consolation, you probably grew all that hair while you pregnant. With dd1 I didn't get more hair in pregnancy, I lost a bunch, and while I didn't loose any pp, that hair I lost during pregnancy never came back.

Mine started at about 3 mo PP, and started slowing down about 6 mo PP. Now at almost 8 mo, its growing back in, AND still falling out, so I have (what seems to me) a huge amount of very short hair growing back in, very noticeably around my hairline Also I could swear there is way way more grey. Ugh!!

I believe that the hair loss can also be attributed to a hormone/mineral/vitamin imbalance/deficiency. So, if you keep losing a lot of hair or are becoming concerned with the amount of hair you are losing, I would strongly advise that you see a homeopath or naturopath about balancing everything.

After my 1st the hair loss wasn't that bad, but for #2 and 3, it was insane. It slowed down at 9 months, but I still lost for a bit after that. DS is 1 now and now I have the entire head of baby hairs coming in.

My SIL had crazy hairloss pp and it turned out to be a zinc deficiency. Another candidate is iron deficiency. You may want to have these checked - it may be that your stores of these or some other mineral were depleted only towards the very end of your pregnancy so this may not have been picked up during your prenatal care, but is hitting you now.

My hair stopped falling out at around 9 months pp.

I started my first pregnancy with straight blonde hair and was a curly brunette by the time my daughter turned one. Amazing!
