For those that don't do early u/s

Do you ever worry about ectopic pregnancy? I've had several shooting pains in my ovary area and sometimes in my pelvis...with no bleeding. A couple have put me on my knees (it usually happens if I'm getting up from a sitting position so I'm not going far to be on my knees)

I plan to mention it to my m/w at my appt on Friday...

Thoughts?

Sounds like early RLP...

I had it with this little one even before I knew she existed! Specifically on New Years Eve (10dpo) jumping on a trampoline... oh it hurt!

Already? It's my second pregnancy! Shouldn't it hurt less this time around?

I've wondered also, I'm not having much in ovarian pain but the back pain has been awful.

I second RLP.

I started having it around 10-12 weeks. It comes and goes, I'll have problems for a few days and then weeks that are pain free.

I've been getting mid-back pain...but I look 5+ months pregnant when I'm just 3 months.

if you are already 3 months I would rule out ectopic. That usually presents itself as a problem between 5 and 8 weeks... by 12 weeks it would have already burst and you would have known it!

and yes, already and for me it got worse with each child! This is #3... I do not remember ever having it with #1 and only towards the end with #2 but the entire time with #3 (now at 31w I have times where I scream in pain from it!)

If you're in pain like that, I would get checked out. I did not have an u/s this time at all. My mom had an ectopic when I was younger that ruptured. She hemorrhaged severely and coded in the ER with severe blood loss, so I am very paranoid about it, but without pain or symptoms, I decided not to have one this time.

ectopics generally become a problem between 6-8 weeks, and would be increasing intense pain. I think you're way out of the woods for that, and echo the RLP answer.

I agree, but it is still worth looking into. Even if it is something simple, it will let you relax to hear it from the m/w you trust. I wish you the best of luck with this! Please keep us updated.

Most likely RLP pain. I also have it worse this time around. If you are already 12 weeks, I agree with the other women, that it would have burst already.

That's what I figured. I haven't had any bleeding and it comes and goes...

Yeah, I got out of the tub last night and it was horrible. Stupid RLP

By 12 weeks you would have already ruptured, unless baby was someplace really odd. I had an ectopic pregnancy at 5-6 weeks that ruptured, and it was like "oh, some spotting...oh some cramping..." for a day and then went right into "oh my God I'm dying" type pain (because well, I was dying, I was hemmoraghing and bleeding to death, literally). Pain you're describing I'd say is RLP, but definitely mention it to your mw.

I had RLP today and for a second had to bend over to make it bearable. I agree though that you are past the ectopic pregnancy time window, I think I'm mostly too. I would mention it though to the midwife to ensure everything is ok. At this point they are able to feel the uterus from the outside (fundus height and such).
I'm not gonna mention it during my appointment on Friday as it is with an obgyn who I will not be seeing any longer and transfer to a birthing center. Mentioning it will push a whole lot of crazy stuff on me, I'm sure.

I think it's RLP, too. You can also find out early on from your HCG level (ectopic would give you much higher than normal pregnancy).

That isn't what I have read. I had an ectopic the ruptured in 2008. (I think the OP ruled out that this isn't an ectopic, but for anyone else who might be reading and concerned about one, along with the intense pain I had brown spotting, throwing up coffee ground material (from the internal bleeding) and passing out as symptoms. And yeah, I didn't make it past eight weeks, symptoms started around six and it was missed at the first ER trip).

My understanding is that to rule out an ectopic in any of my future pregnancies (I have a 30% risk of one) is that serial HcG levels will be taken to see if they are increasing. Ectopic pregnancies would have a lower than normal HcG, or they would not double in 48-72 hours (but rather jump around). Maybe you are thinking of a molar pregnancy? That would have much higher than normal HcG levels.

That's what my OB said. With my two post ectopic pregnancies I've had hcg checks every two days as soon as I get a positive hpt, until my levels get high enough to do an u/s to verify baby is intrauterine. She said low or slow rising hcg can signal ectopic.

Molar pregnancy though, usually has very high hcg levels.

Of course, either are dangerous situations no one wants to be in...
