Getting the smell of smoke out of something?

I'm so disgusted right now. I found a PBK crib sheet on ebay for DS. It came today and it REEKS of smoke. I threw it in the garage because it is so disgusting. It makes me sick to think that some baby was living in so much smoke that their crib sheet smells that bad.

Both of my kids have asthma/reactive airway issues. The toddler especially. One little cold sends him into wheezing.

Do you think there is any hope, any way to get the smoke out of this thing? Or should I just call it a loss and toss it? So much for trying to be "green" and reuse instead of buying brand new.

I might try soaking it in full strength Bac-out, but for the price of that you could probably have bought a whole pack of new sheets.

Also washing in baking soda and using vinegar in a Downy ball...and then leave it in the sun for as many days as it takes to get it gone completely.

Let me know if you find another trick. I am trying to get smoke out of a car I inherited from a relative who smoked like a chimney. (Guess how she died?)
