I'm 9 weeks now...could the progesterone cream be prolonging a miscarriage?

In an effort to ease my mind, I did some reading. What I found was that progesterone cream can sometimes prolong a miscarriage, which is what happened to me with my last pg, which was a blighted ovum.

Does any one know??

I've not had any bleeding so far...that's good, right??

I guess if it has happened to you before then it is possible, but I have no idea.

I do know with a blighted ovum, that the HCG levels do not rise as much and will indeed start falling. Therefore, you would lose pregnancy symptoms or intensity. I had a missed MC at 13 weeks, which ended with a D&E, for a baby that seemed to have died between 10-11 weeks. I never spotted or cramped so I shouldn't have suspected anything was wrong, but before I found out the baby had died I felt something was "off". My uterus felt like it wasn't growing, and then felt smaller...i looked smaller and just didn't feel "pregnant". Maybe it was just intuition...

If you are feeling pregnant and have no spotting/cramping then I wouldn't worry. I know that progesterone can give you some crummy side effects but if you're growing and feeling pregnancy symptoms, I wouldn't worry too much.

if you're really anxious, I would get a US to rule out any issues.

Also, are you taking a prescription progesterone or the NPC you can buy over the counter?

I'm dropping in because I'm curious, can you buy progesterone without a prescription?

DDCC -
cream, yes. I do not know about pills or suppositories, but you can indeed buy progesterone cream without a prescription.

As for the prolonging a miscarriage... its possible but not likely. Many women who take progesterone and still miscarry still get all the signs and symptoms of said miscarriage. If you aren't bleeding, I would try to push it from my mind for now.

I've been wondering the same thing - I'm on NPC too. My m/s is so much milder than in my previous pregnancies so it makes me wonder if I am having another missed miscarriage and the extra progesterone is just not letting my body recognize it.

Very morbid - I've always been like that. The smarter thing to do would be to just recognize that symptoms are different from pregnancy to pregnancy and RELAX until I actually have a reason to be worried.

I had a perfect u/s at 7w so I have no reason to suspect anything is wrong. Hopefully next week at 10 weeks I'll be able to hear the heart on doppler and put my mind at ease.

Lots of hugs to you!! I'm sure everything is just fine. s
