Does antone have a 1yr. old and 3 yr. old sleeping in same room? My concern is SIDS

I've been thinking of moving my 1yr. old in the same room with my 3 yr. old,
Not exactly the same bed, but same room. I'm concerned about SIDS.
I'm hoping the move would be good for whole family. Both children wake up so I think this change would help them feel safer or more comfortable having each other.
Please any advice

I'm confused how the concern of SIDS plays in. SIDS usually only affects 6mo and younger. How would the two kids rooming together increase SIDS for a toddler and a child?

At 1 yr old, SIDS wouldn't even be on my radar. I have had a 1 and 3 yo sleeping in bed together - our bed, so DH and I were crammed in there, too.

Media worked me up

I guess I was worked up by media, about SIDS I heard to watch them until they were two, so my first child was in our bed until 3 yr.
We still go in her room and sleep if she wakes up which she does every night.
Right now its musical beds, my one year is in our bed all night, my 3 yr. old is in her own room, but will not sleep in her bed alone.
I'm thinking moving 1 yr old in her room might help her sleep better, even though he wakes up once a night still.

What do you think? I don't mind the musical beds, but would like to sleep next to my husband once and awhile.
Has anyone heard of children stopping breathing until two yrs old, I don't know where I picked that up from. I still wake and watch my 1 yr at night.

I hate to quote the AAP, but here:

http://aappolicy.aappublications.org...116/5/1245.pdf

The 2nd page has the risk per age graph. The primary risk is 2-4 month olds. After a year, it's not even considered SIDS anymore.

Relax, mama.

i've heard of stuff like that with older kids too, as in it can happen at any age, though it is usually suspected(never able to be proved though, of course) to be vax reactions. I honestly wouldnt do anything to prevent it though(ie things like fan on, no pillow, no blanket, no soft bed) though, then again, unless it comes from my motherly instincts, i dont really take too much precaution with my newborns either.

I would not bed a 1yo and 3yo together on the same surface without an adult between them (the risk here would be suffocation, not SIDs), but in the same room, sure. 4 out of 5 of mine share a room, the youngest is still in bed with us.

As far as the musical beds thing goes, would your older child be more comfortable with a toddler mattress on your floor? Maybe you could start her in her own bed but let her know she is welcome to come to your room if she wakes up. (My oldest didn't transition to his own bed until he was four, and I know if can make things a little crazy in the marriage department.)

My 10mo and 3yo share a room. Well kinda. Dd2 starts off in crib then comes into my bed when she wakes up for a feed. Works good for us.
