Repairing knit item?

Thread Starter
I have a wool soaker that was machine knit, and after wearing it for just a few weeks, there are two breaks in the yarn used, at the edge, on the ribbing. I don't want to ignore it and let it become a huge problem, but I'm not sure what I can do with it, since it was machine knit at such a fine gauge - I don't even think I have needles that fine.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to repair it - or at least prevent it from unraveling?

Do you want it to be pretty? There are articles (check knitty.com and knittingdaily.com) about how to do it correctly. If I have a hole and it is somewhere I don't care about, I usually thread a darning needle and sew a whole bunch in the damaged area. I'm sure someone else has a neater way!
