Planetbox users question

Can anyone measure how much the big and little dippers hold? Is it like a 1/4 cup and 1 cup? And how wide are they across? DS1 has been using the Laptop Lunchbox for 3 years now and he takes yogurt/applesauce/cottage cheese with him every day in the bigger lidded container and then he has the main part of his lunch as well. I'm wondering if the little dipper container would be big enough for this or if it would have to go in the big dipper (then leaving no room for a sandwich or other larger item). I think the Planetbox would only work for us if the little dipper is big enough.

And is the entire thing only 1 1/2 inches tall??? That's what it says on the website, but that just seems so flat! I think the sandwiches I make are thicker than that!

i looked in to the planet box this year (decided against it for my child) and i remember that the amounts it holds are somewhere on the website (i think FAQ)

The little container is 1/3 of a cup and the big is a cup. Yes, it's that thin. No, there is no problem with thick sandwiches. I've put sandwiches in the outside carrying case pocket when I've used the large container inside. You have to use the containers inside the planet box.

The drink pouch on the carrying case has shredded on mine. I'm playing phone tag with planetbox to try to get it remedied. The box itself is awesome!

My kindy student used her Planetbox all year and it still looks brand spanking new. The little dipper is really not large enough for anything except sauce or dip of some sort, unless your child eats like mine (a bird!). She would probably be fine with a little dipper filled with applesauce! The big dipper is nice for those things though. It's very thin, but sandwiches fit in the little food area designed for a sandwich perfectly.

Honestly, I think it's a great system and will be purchasing a second one for my 4 year old entering kindy this year. We haven't had problems with shredding, but I have always been nervous when I shove an Honest Kids juice pouch in there!!

ETA: There is also a pocket on the outside next to the area for a drink and the big dipper fits in there, as well. So, the big dipper doesn't have to go inside the PB itself. Just FYI....

To clarify: you do have to put the containers inside if you want the containers to seal. The Planet Box itself seals it. In the outer pocket, the containers leak. Of course if you are not using something that is liquid, it doesn't matter... but unless you want it sealed, there's no real reason to use the containers.

OP - I wanted to say that I have resolved everything with Planet Box. They sent me a new carrying case free-of-charge because of the shredded drink holder. I can't say enough nice things about the customer service. They've been great!

I recommended before and do so even more now.

Oh, wow...I have put yogurt in the "big dipper" and stuck it in the outside pocket with no leaks. Hmm....maybe you got a faulty seal?

That is awesome that they replaced the bag for you!! We just ordered a whole new system plus new magnets for DD1. Love PlanetBox!!

No, it specifies that you have to have the containers in the box to make a seal that resists movement. I think maybe you've just gotten lucky so far. The container itself has no latch system to ensure that fluid foods don't leak. If you were to put watermelon, for example, it leaks immediately upon being tipped when carrying if not inside the container.

Yes, customer service has been superb.

I just ordered the PlanetBox. I'm a little nervous, b/c DS doesn't really like sandwiches, so we'll see if it meets our needs.

And if not, DH brings his lunch to work every day, and he was totally into it, too. Wonder if he'll like the rocket magnets?
