Dog urine smell

Once the accident is cleaned up with hot water and vinegar, DH cleans the area with the carpet cleaner. It's brand new.
I'm not sure what type of cleaner/shampoo he's purchasing, but it's whatever Bissel makes. Is there something else that we can do to get rid of the stale smell?

Use an enzymatic cleaner like Nature's Miracle or Bac Out first or with the hot water and vinegar.

Yup, another vote for an enzymatic pet cleaner. Nature's Miracle is a common recommendation, I just got whatever my pet store sold in that category and it seemed to work too.

I agree...I use Bac-Out. However, I've heard hot water lessens the effectiveness of the enzymes. So I clean first with water, then saturate with straight Bac-Out.

I highly recommend nautres miracle. We keep a bottle in the house at all times even though our dogs are no longer puppies. It is great on so many spills/stains even from the kids.

NM does make a carpet shampoo that is designed to work with their products but it works really well. We used it yrs ago when we moved into an apt that had a dog smell to it.

You can purchase it at the HFS, amazon.com, drugstore.com, UNFI, and I believe directly from Bi-O-Kleen. I now purchase it only on sale from UNFI but for many years purchased from drugstore.com and it was much less expensive than the HFS.
