DS1 was a big spitter. Seriously, it seemed like half of what he ate came back up after every feeding, and he did it until he was a year old or so (the amount that came up decreased with time).
Mind you, this was almost 20 years ago, but I was told that as long as it's not projectile vomiting and as long as the baby is wetting enough diapers and gaining weight appropriately, then not to worry about it. Apparently, in some babes the esophageal sphincter just isn't strong enough to hold the stomach closed.

My DD was an an exorcist-type projectile spit up kid and we had to change her clothes about 5xs a day. It was amazing that she gained weight like she did and was in the 90th percentile because it looked like she never kept in anything. She actually gained weight faster than her brother in the beginning and that was when it was the worst. She had wet diapers and lots of poopie ones too, so I never worried.
I had really hard letdown with her always, painful really, I think that probably contributed to her spitting up. With DS i haven't nearly had any of the same issues that I did with DD, he has rarely spit up, I mean a handful of times. It's really amazing how different 2 kids can be.
