paperwork questions

My oldest is 5 and would go to K this year if he were going... I signed him up (because at that time dh wasn't on board with hs'ing). But now we're definitely hs'ing. I'm in NJ... and while K isn't mandatory, I think I need to send in a letter saying we're hs'ing since I enrolled him, right? I'd send it to our town's board of ed?

And... I know that AC Moore has a teacher discount that applies to hs'ers, but they want some sort of proof of homeschooling. Will I get something back from the district, or is there something I need to "join" or do in order to get something on paper?

And... anyone else have any other good discount places? (I'm not doing any particular curriculum but piecing together stuff as we go)...

thanks!

You'll have to check in to NJ laws. Maybe ask a local HS group? Here in OR, we're required to send in a paper to our ESD ("education school district" i think) letting them know we'll be Hschooling. We have to do it just once, when our child is 7 on or by Sept. something-or-other date. We would not need to send it in if our child was enrolled or even went to K for a time. They don't want it until the child's 7. They then send us a simple sheet back that lists us as homeschoolers that we can use for proof of homeschooling.
