Isn't it too soon for teething?!?

So Leyla is 11 weeks old now and I'm pretty sure she's teething. About two weeks ago she started some major drool production and chewing on her fingers. I noticed then two little bumps on her gums where her bottom teeth would be. Now she's upped the teething signs to coughing and a stuffy nose and the bumps are more pronounced. Isn't she too young for this? She was born 10 days late so I guess she could be considered 12 1/2 weeks. I think her mouth is bothering her too because her nursing behavior has changed completely. She pulls at the nipple all the time (not fun for mama) and she wants to nurse every hour and a half to two hours when she used to go at least three between nursing. She's also gone from nursing once or twice during the night to 4 or five times.

I am pretty positive Cecilia is teething (14 weeks) and has been for at least 2-3 weeks. I can feel the ridge of her right front tooth on the bottom, and she has been chewing on everything, yanking my nipples while nursing and drooling up a storm. She's also nursing more often, now that you mention it, but I didn't put that one together with the teething.

one of the babies from my birth class had two teeth fully in by 3.5 months.

golly, charlie has been teething for so long now i hardly remember a time when he WASN'T .

he started before 10 weeks, drooling (a little), running his gums over my nipples from side to side, wanting to chomp on things (when he only previously sucked), and fussiness/crying at odd times not related to hunger or tiredness. occasionally i see more white in areas of his gums, but no bumps yet.

dr. sears says "pre-teething" behavior can go on for months, when teeth are shifting around even before you can see what's happening.

poor babies!

one of my babes starting all the signs of teething at 12 weeks but didn't cut a tooth until 6 months! i kept watching for that tooth and it took for.ev.er. some long nights and grumpy (drooly) days.

Yup... DD1 got her first 2 teeth at 3.5 months (and she was 2 weeks early to boot). I was a clueless first-time mom and thought ALL babies were that drooly. When nursing changed, I thought it was nipple confusion because I'd gone back to work. She hadn't found her hands yet and certainly couldn't chew on a teether, but she did chomp down on our fingers, HARD, if you got them anywhere near her.

So yeah, it's unusual but definitely possible!

DD1 started showing all signs of teething at 16 weeks, including being able to see/feel her teeth just below the gumline. However, they didn't actually pop through until she was 10 months old.
She was drooly like crazy that whole time, too.

Ada has become very drooly also. She has started doing this annoying thing where she tugs on my nipple by pulling her head back and making my boob stretch waaaay out until the nipple pops out of her mouth. Then she smacks her lips and gums and cries.

DD1 started teething around 3 months too. She got her first two bottom teeth by the end of 4 months. Teething was absolutely horrible with her. We used Hyland's teething tablets, an amber teething necklace, and resorted to Motrin on the nights teeth were actually breaking through because I couldn't take the non-stop ear piercing screaming.

Leyla does this too! So painful!! I don't know what to do about it though. I don't want to react too much and scare her but I want her to know that it is not okay to do that. So far I've just been telling her no pulling in a firm voice but I don't think she's even noticing what I'm saying. I have to force her head on my boob to keep her from doing it and I hate that too. Ugh.

Please God don't let this go on for months! I figured since I can see the teeth below the gums they would come through soon.

FWIW, DD2 is doing this and is definitely not teething, at least not compared to her sister at this age. I think she just likes to look around.

Just this week Cecilia has started to be really vicious to my right nipple-- just the right one, for whatever reason. She yanks and turns her head back and forth really sharply. It's gotten bad enough that I'm mostly pumping on the right side instead of putting her on it. I can't imagine why she's only doing it on the one side.

Lots of signs of teething here, too, and only yesterday I actually saw the teensy little tooth bud! Crazy to think she's going to have one of those guys in eventually. DH and I picture her as a cartoon baby, mostly bald with a big curly Q of hair on top, drooly grin with one big tooth. Ha!
