breastfeeding billboards

DD and I just got back from visiting the grandparents (they live in Ashland, Kentucky) and while we were there we saw three pro-breastfeeding billboards. The Ashland-Boyd County WIC office had put them up and they had the name/number of an RN to contact for info and help. (We weren't out much and never in the county, so there may be more.) One had a picture of a mom and baby and said "Breastfeeding, a loving gift" and another had a baby and said "Breastmilk does a baby good." The third had a picture of a baby, but I don't remember the slogan. I was so impressed, I've never anyone publicly breastfeed in Ashland. I know people there who have, but most of the moms you see out have bottles (I know some could have breastmilk, but I can't tell). Yeah for Ashland-Boyd County WIC!!!

I live in West Virginia and for a long time our local WIC also had a billboard like the one you're describing. I was SO excited the first time I saw it! I think it was up for at least 6 months and was replaced by something else. I have heard that WIC is really trying to promote bf'ing. They should considering we spend something like $500 million every year in tax dollars to provide free formula to women through WIC. Ugh!!

Awesome! I'm from Ashland, and my mom still lives there! I can't wait to see them when I go back to visit! Way to go, Boyd County!

I'm going to email a letter to the Daily Progress. Excellent!

Looking forward to NIP there now.

I think it is great that they have these "breastfeeding" bulletin boards up for mothers and others to see how important breastfeeding is to both mother and baby. I personally have not seen any of these yet. Oh well, maybe someday they will come to my neck of the woods.
