Toddler Smoothies

Thread Starter
I want to start making smoothies for DS (20 month). I am curious how you serve them to a young child. With a spoon, straw or what? DS does not use a sippy. He drinks from a glass. Also, when I have smoothies many times it fills my belly with air making me bloated or gassy. Are there ways to avoid this? Have you ever had this problem from giving DC smoothies?

Feel free to share your favorite recipes.

We always have used a straw, but that's also DS's preferred method of drinking anything. I would think if you made a really thick, sherbert-y smoothie that a spoon could work too.

I started Ds on smoothies around that age as well. He loved my green smoothies. I have so many pics of his green face. I just did my normal recipe
which was a frozen banana, blueberries and or whatever fruit I have, water and greens. Mostly baby spinach or Kale. We would have them several times a week and I got him a special cup with a straw. Actually, he used this starbucks cup with a lid for the longest time until it got too hard to clean. Wonder what happened to that cup?? Hmmnnn. Anyways, now my son who is almost 4 yrs old does not want smoothies anymore. I think I gave him too many but atleast I got the nutrients in him then. I also did smoothies with just kefir and fruit. He likes those as well and thats probably what I should be making him now. I guess he needs a break from the smoothies. I really like pears and pineapple in smoothies. Hemp seed makes it
creamy which your son might like.

We do similar smoothies, and give it in a straw Thermos cup. Hempseeds, bananas, goat kefir, greens like kale or spinach, sometimes a raw carrot, sometimes a medjool date.
