My water broke at 6:00 am on Tuesday May 18th. I was very excited and was anxiously waiting for my contractions to start. DH went ahead and went to work mowing for a few hours. My mom came over to encourage me to do things to get the contractions going. After a few hours I had very, very mild contractions every 10 minutes. My dad and DH were nervous that I wasn’t going straight to the hospital. However, I wanted to labor at home and go to the hospital at the last possible moment. I told them that I would go to the hospital by 6:00 pm if labor hasn’t progressed at all. Unfortunately, after a day of walking, stretching and relaxing no contracts came, so we headed to the hospital. After being admitted they gave me an hour to start contracting naturally before they would give me pitocin to start the labor progressing. I was upset about this at first about getting the pitocin, but knew that’s what had to be done. They gave me the pitocin around midnight. The contractions started progressing. At 8:00 am I was dilated to a 3 and was exhausted after not sleeping for so long. I got an epidural then got to relax for a few hours. After pushing for 20 minutes, Silas came in to the world at 2:13 p.m. He is perfect in every way. He entered in the world with his eyes wide open looking around at all the love in the room. He was immediately placed on my chest and stared into my eyes. DH cut the umbilical cord. I had some severe tearing up towards my urethra, so a surgeon had to be called in to do the repairs. I didn’t mind, as I was holding my new bundle of joy and learning to start are breastfeeding relationship. He weighed 7lbs 3 oz and was 20 inches long.
